This is something that's been bothering me lately. 😤 A lot of folks these days just don't have that sense of ownership over their work. They let themselves become victims, defined by work struggles, instead of taking control and facing challenges head-on. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash anyone here. At Stripe, I was fortunate to work with Claire Hughes Johnson who helped us better understand this concept. The unique analogy addressed by her in this video raises an important point. When things go wrong You see kids trying to cover up their mistakes by building stories You see people in sports trying to blame weather and equipment You see drivers blaming accidents on bad roads instead of acknowledging risky driving habits. Similarly, as professionals, we face challenges and setbacks, but how we respond can make or break our success. - Acknowledge the situation - Take ownership - Learn from the experience - Outline steps to resolve the problem Because at the end of the day, You are not a victim of your circumstances. Rather, you might be one for how you deal with your problems.

It's your 2nd week at Stripe. You're just happy to be there. Your boss gives you an opportunity to post-produce a user video. 'For what?' you ask. 'Sessions'. #StripeSessions, the internet economy conference and the biggest public-facing event led by Stripe all year. You put your head down and get to to work. 3 weeks and lots of hard work later, you see the first project you worked on at the final stage. It's being played live in front of hundreds of conference attendees. You're pinching yourself. This is what you've wanted for years. You think back to when you've been told 'with a little more work' or 'maybe next time' you could achieve something like this. But stop for a second. You DID achieve this. And you work toward the next big video project, knowing the result will be equally gratifying because your work is acknowledged. And you're just getting started. Life is good.

What an incredible day at Stripe Sessions! How many managers will reconsider their 1:1s after Jensen Huang's thought-provoking speech? With 60 direct reports, Jensen opts for a unique approach—meeting everyone at once. This way, strategies, issues, and failures are discussed openly, fostering a culture where collective learning thrives. It's a strategy that ensures alignment and keeps everyone informed. Jensen's emphasis on those reporting directly to the CEO requiring minimal oversight or career guidance certainly got me thinking. Without a doubt, Jensen's talk was one of the highlights of #stripesessions. Can't wait to see what day 2 holds! #stripesessions2024

When these messages come through in our shared Slack channels, it makes the hard work all worth it. "I cannot believe it’s taken me this long to do given it was the easiest onboarding process I’ve EVER been through! I know you said “no code integration in under 60 seconds” but I just assumed there would be all sorts of steps and admin which is why I put it off for quite so long! But it’s live in 30 seconds and it’s fantastic!!!" - Happy new Revenew user 😁 We have spent a lot of time focusing on the "signup-to-aha-moment" experience. There are always improvements to make but our users can feel how simple we have made it for them, even though there is a lot of complexity under the hood. If you are using Stripe Connect today, why not give Revenew a try 😉

Yesterday I shared how Stripe won by niching down and focusing on helping developers. But if you want to see how this strategy works in a much different space, look at Carhartt. Carhartt doesn't sell "clothes." They don't even sell "work clothes." They sell "clothes for people who work really damn hard." And you can see this focus show up in their product, their marketing, and even their choice of distribution channels. It's why Carhartt is a $1.7B company. ===== 𝗜 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝟮𝗕 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗛𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 🔔.

Reddit is among the latest to start issuing single year equity grants for new hires. They join the likes of Lyft, Stripe, and Coinbase in challenging the traditional 4 year stock grant issued upfront as a part of a new offer. Instead they rely on refreshing employees at the end of every year. The offer below is for an IC3 AI software engineer getting paid $320k in total compensation. View the data here: https://lnkd.in/gDt_RbVw The landscape around vesting schedules has been quite varied for some time (ie Amazon back-loaded, Google front-loaded), but its continuing to change rapidly as companies adopt different philosophies on compensation and how it ties to performance. Some are extending schedules to be longer to encourage longer term commitment, while others are going shorter but with much more frequent refreshes based on performance. We keep track of companies and their compensation philosophies, and even notify you of breaking changes on things such as their vesting schedule in our competitive intelligence tool: https://lnkd.in/dByYUHWq #salarytransparency #compensation #vestingschedule
