I recommend this insightful article written by Vas Shenoy. It explains how much the dynamism of history is related to the permanent reality of geography. In fact it has been said that geography and history are two sister sciences. The long relationship between the “two seas” is a dialogue between civilizations but also the result of economic complementarities which have been greater in times of stronger development of the Italian and Indian peninsulas. This happened during the Roman Empire and it’s well demonstrated by any map of the discoveries of Roman coins: it’s astonishing to see the quantity of Roman coins discovered in Southern India! Nowadays we have a great historical opportunity to revamp this relationship which is beneficial to all the countries of the #IndoMed and will have positive impact in the #IndoPacific (a geopolitical vision proposed by the Japanese PM Shinzo Abe). This new opportunity is represented by the India - Middle East - Europe Economic Corridor (#IMEC) a network of of connectivity having its terminals in India (with the harbor of #Mumbai) and Italy (with #Trieste, the northernmost harbor of the Mediterranean and the nearest to the economic heartland of Europe). 👇

Anklesaria Aiyar offers a crucial perspective on India’s economic strategy in his recent analysis of the country's trade relationship with China. Post-2020, India took a more cautious stance towards China, banning Chinese apps and limiting investments. While understandable given the border tensions, Aiyar argues that this approach may have come at the cost of opportunities in critical sectors like renewable energy, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing. Aiyar highlights that China’s technological capabilities, especially in green energy and electric vehicles, could greatly benefit India’s growth. Companies like BYD, the world’s largest electric car manufacturer, offered to invest in India, but the opportunity was turned away. Such decisions may be holding India back in industries that are key to future economic leadership. Aiyar’s suggestion to revisit trade policies and consider Chinese investments in non-strategic sectors could be a game-changer. This approach is aligned with the US strategy, which emphasizes "small yard, high"fence"—protecting key areas while continuing cooperation in others. For India, this means focusing on strategic defense and security while welcoming investment that can elevate technological standards and drive economic growth. Do you know the connection between the stock-market, Wifi, Bluetooth, a telescope, a CD and an eye test? All (and many more objects like microscope, DVD, "Fair trade" and even orange carrots) are Dutch inventions!!!!!!!! I was triggered to this when I saw the most recent Global Innovation Index Racking, where the Netherlands dropped from 5th to 7th place. Still great, but unfortunately dropping a bit. You can read all about it in this thick report: https://lnkd.in/erv8iA4u The innovation input index is composed of five sub-indexes: institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market sophistication, and business sophistication. You can also see the rise of India, hopefully also partly driven by a lot of innovative companies like Addverb, that went from spot 79 to spot 40 this year and is the leader in the group of (average) lower income countries. I support the growth of Addverb and therefore hope to see India further climbing the index, but I also hope that we keep investing in innovation (by government and companies) in the Netherlands and keep our spot in the top 10.
