DHL Express TO DEPLOY TWO BOEING 777 FREIGHTERS WITH Central Airlines Co.,LTD DHL Express has signed a Letter of Intent to enter into an Operating Agreement with Central Airlines (HLF / I9) to deploy two DHL B777 freighters. This will be the first time for DHL Express to do so with a local Chinese cargo airline. “The signing of the Letter of Intent is an important milestone for both parties in the process of establishing a partnership and is another important step for DHL Express to deliver its commitment to long term development in China, and to seek and deepen its cooperation with Chinese companies. 📈 Estimates for airfreight growth range in 2024 from 2% to 5%, but the continuing influx of passenger widebody capacity, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, as airlines reset after the pandemic is expected to put pressure on load factors and rates. Typically the calmer time of the year in air cargo, this mid-summer has been anything but quiet for us. Across our global network and within Asia, we’re seeing robust demand as reflected by the PMI (purchasing managers’ index), in line with macro-economic improvements. With the peak season incoming, Chris Bowden, Head of Cargo Global Partnerships, predicts that the market on the upturn will bring about even more air cargo opportunities. To prepare for peak season, we’re tweaking our capacity and ramping up freighter frequency in key high-demand lanes. To further reinforce reliability over our busiest period, our fleet has also undergone a summer health check, so we can put valued capacity where it is needed the most by our customers and partners. Taiwan-headquartered forwarder Dimerco said it was important for customers looking to ship from China to the US and Europe to plan for the fourth quarter early as capacity was selling out on some services. “While some markets experience overcapacity and the redeployment of freighters, the overall picture for airfreight capacity remains challenging. The industry must navigate these hurdles to meet global demand effectively.” Earlier this week, both Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and Qatar Cargo confirmed they were moving widebody capacity out of the Latam-Europe trade to Asia-Europe. This is likely to result in more cargo transiting through Miami and using the large amount of passenger capacity between the US and Europe, where rates have tumbled due to the oversupply mentioned by DSV.
