This is a very interesting piece by Theo Maniski, drawing attention to the importance of 'talk', given that the "spoken word wields immense power". If anyone is interested in following up on his various important points, I recommend the following: 1. 'Is that clear? Effective communication in a multilingual world' by Gaynor and Alevizos. Self-published. Zanne Gaynor This is a superb little book for highly fluent speakers of English, providing easy to follow tips for adjusting their English. 2. 'Global Fitness for Global People' by Spencer-Oatey, Franklin & Lazidou. Castledown. Peter Franklin Domna Lazidou This focuses on language and communication in contexts of cultural diversity. See particularly Chapter 3, Global Communication Skills: Enhancing mutual understanding. 3. 'Making Working Relationships Work' by Spencer-Oatey & Lazidou. Castledown. This explores the impact of language and communication of rapport and relationship management, especially in the workplace. It covers issues such as communication style as well the communication dynamics that Theo refers to. #language #communication #misunderstanding #talk #fluency #workplace
