One week ago, I posted about the mobile social congress and the concerns it generated to me. Now you can have a more clear idea of what worried me since they released the video of all the sessions.  It’s quite long, but it clearly provides critical info about the hidden price of our “green” transition in terms of extractivism, natural resources, human rights violations, oligopoly, and many more aspects. Some examples you may find in the video: - The extractivism of lithium in South America, which is depriving local people of their lands that are crucial for their survival. - The extractivism of cobalt in Congo, which is generating many violations of human rights and wars. - The massive production of electronics in China with very poor working conditions. - The oligopoly of the big techs which is inhibiting alternatives in this important market, and concentrating many crucial data and  services in a few companies.  - The increasing carbon footprint of the digital technologies, which is projected to reach 15% of the worldwide emissions by 2030. - The AI that is exacerbating the societal gaps and bias, and all the problems of above. As I said in the previous post, I know that all these problems seem so big and far from our researchers’ lives, but in my opinion we should start considering the effect of our technologies in their full life cycle, which definitely includes these problems. I think that this is the only way we will  truly have sustainable innovations. I've been staring at my computer struggling to find words for how I feel.. The IDG Summit 2024 has come to an end. Decompressing from my room at Ekskäret next to my sleeping son two things strike me; 1. The concept of Inner Development for Outer Change is addressing something I believe millions and millions of people have been sensing but didn't have language for. It's still very early days but the focus is moving from narratives with convening power towards global communities of practice and even precursors of structural changes. Learning from the latest science we need this urgently. One indicator of momentum is that the Summit had representatives from - More than 100 countries - The White House - The United Nations - The first lady of Colombia - Hundreds of Researchers and Universities from all continents - Hundreds of inspiring organisation pioneering responsibility. Not just talking about it. Not doing it to show off to others. But really doing it. Like Welser Profile, a steel manufacturer with 2500 employees who run as a Holocracy and take a 11 generation perspective on everything they do. 2. The second and more moving insight for me, is that I didn't meet a single "professional" person "representing" a organisation. Not one. All the people I met from these international organisations, delegations or corporations where just human beings showing up. No roles. No representing. Just people, in perfect incompleteness. Seeing things as they are, do what they can, using what they have and developing when they fail. When people believe in people, it feels like coming home. Honestly, I've never experienced anything like it. Which many may think sounds weird, and maybe that's why I'm struggling to find words. But it's true. Not even close. The amount of courage, humanness, care left me with... Deep Hope. And a knowing that we can do this. We just need to get to work. So watch out Moloch. The only way this was made possible was all the people pouring love into creating this experience. Especially you Katharina Moser. The entire Inner Development Goals team. All the hundreds of co-creators, contributors, volunteers. Brave partners. Supporters. Thank you all for the small things no one noticed needed doing that still got done. For all the things no one said thank you for but that together made this experience so magical for those who where there.

Since 2006, the Mobile World Congress has transcended being merely the world's premier technological event. It has become a gathering for those who envision a better world. It's crucial that the immense technical prowess showcased at the Mobile World Congress is accompanied by a new humanism: technological humanism. This is the surest way to ensure that progress benefits both people and the planet. It's up to us to harness technology for solutions that address the needs of all human beings, regardless of where they live.
