An interesting snapshot from the ONS IDBR shows the number of enterprises listed in Scotland under Division 68 (Real Estate Activities) of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC). I'd expect most letting agents to carry SIC Code 6832 (Management of Real Estate On a Fee or Contract Basis), and 995 Scottish enterprises have this code. According to the Scottish Letting Agent Register there are 985 registered letting agents in Scotland which is convenient. However, there are a number of data caveats to consider, which are well detailed at source. Furthermore, it is not always immediately clear what SIC code a company should select and not all companies are diligent in updating SIC codes as their business evolves. A quick search of companies house reveals stand alone letting agents using alternative codes although there are likely legitimate reasons for doing so (e.g., own property vs landlord property etc). Furthermore, sole traders don't technically need a SIC code. Data interpretation is never straightforward! (Source: 2024 data via ONS)

Shocking news for anyone involved with any ISG business following the announcement that several ISG businesses filed a notice of administration. ISG acknowledged that there have been problems for some time and they have been unable to pay bills. It is even more concerning that as of yesterday, some of my clients mentioned that credit reference agencies were reporting that ISG were good for credit! Most businesses involved in construction rely on credit reference agencies, and pay substantial fees, in order be kept updated with regards to the financial status of their clients. 😕 It is common knowledge that ISG has been struggling to pay bills for some time, so how has this not come to the attention of credit reference agencies and why have they failed to update their credit scores on ISG? Thankfully we are not affected by the ISG downfall and I hope that anyone involved with ISG recovers quickly from this situation. 🙏 https://lnkd.in/eKWQxezE
