Ever seen EVERY National Rail station on one page? Well, here it is and it's even more interesting than you thought! Each blob is scaled to 2023/24 National Rail entries and exits as per the latest Office of Rail and Road (ORR) data released last week. The lovely purple highlights the Elizabeth Line managed stations that cosy nicely around the London Underground owned stations in the middle that have also seen a massive increase in patronage since the line opened. The orange of Network Rail separates London Overground Rail Operations Ltd (LOROL), London Underground and the Elizabeth Line from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom operators' stations. The sheer number of stations here of varying sizes is fascinating - notice York tucked away on the bottom right. The dark blue around the outside is of course ScotRail with the big blob at 7'clock being Glasgow Queen Street with 14m entries and exits. What do you think? Southeastern Railway and Network Rail Alliance have completed a £2.6 million station improvements programme, enhancing over 20 stations across South-East London, East Sussex, and Kent. The 2023 upgrades included restoring historic booking halls at Margate and Battle, enclosing waiting rooms at Eltham, and improving accessibility at stations like Petts Wood and Canterbury East. This milestone complements Access for All schemes and a £2 million initiative to refresh over 100 stations, demonstrating a commitment to improving passenger comfort and accessibility across the network. Last week we published our station usage statistics for April 2023 to March 2024, with the Elizabeth line dominating Great Britain’s top 10 stations list.   Taking a closer look at the top 10 most used stations in Great Britain outside London, Birmingham New Street leads the way with 33.3 million entries and exits, up by 2.6 million.     Manchester Piccadilly is second with an increase of 2.2 million and Glasgow Central is in third place, up by 4.2 million. The New Sydney Rail Tunnel Lights Up The new City and Southwest line is a 15.5km extension of the existing M1 metro line between Chatswood and Sydenham passing through the Sydney CBD, providing a much needed second rail crossing of Sydney Harbour. The line opened in late 2024 and consists of 8 new underground metro stations, with 3 interchange opportunities with exiting rail lines at Chatswood, Martin Place and Central. With a train coming every four minutes during peak hours, the line is already carrying over 200,000 people a day. Given the importance of this new line and the amount of people using it to travel around the city, seamless mobile coverage is essential. We worked with the Sydney Metro team to provide mobile coverage along the line via a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS). This extends our existing mobile coverage from the Northwest line to provide an end-to-end mobile coverage for the length of the rail tunnels. And the key point is that this investment would pay for itself. compared with many new road bypasses that, on average, return to congestion after just 6 years.
