🌟 Building Momentum: Positive Reflections from DBT’s Visit to GB Electronics 🌟 This past week, we had the privilege of hosting the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) as they explored the Greater Brighton area's thriving tech landscape. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our facilities and share insights into our commitment to innovation and community development. 💬 We’re thrilled to share some of the encouraging feedback from DBT officials: "I’ve been doing these local area familiarisation tours for over 10 years, and I don’t think we’ve ever met with such a large or wide array of local partners and stakeholders." "It was great to hear the enthusiasm and opportunities in the region." "I and the team gained a lot of knowledge and insight from the visit. It was great to participate alongside such a varied group responsible for thought leadership and economic development across the Greater Brighton region.” 💼 The Tour and Presentation Highlights: The tour included a close look at our advanced SMT manufacturing site, our newly expanded EMC testing facilities, and the design space at BizSpace, where our multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively on cutting-edge projects. DBT officials appreciated the strong ties we’ve built with local educational providers, supporting a pipeline of local talent. Our Core Strategy and Diverse Sectors slides were highlights, showcasing our client-centred, sector-agnostic approach and our commitment to innovative solutions across various industries. DBT found these elements compelling and noted how our approach aligns well with the region's ambitions for technological growth. Our Managing Director Mark Bullen captured the future direction of GB Electronics perfectly: "I think we have created something special here, and I want to continue on the growth trajectory... This visit was an important step in highlighting Greater Brighton as a fantastic area for tech businesses and opportunities." #GBE #GreaterBrightonTech ##UKBusiness #FutureOfTech #GrowthTrajectory #SectorAgnostic

One of the highlights of attending SBC with the PayBrokers team was getting to share the stage with this panel of experts to discuss one of the most important aspects of the industry: Payments 💰
If I’m sharing this next week, you know SBC was incredibly productive 🙂 With such a massive scale and a new venue, it’s no surprise! SBC, at this rate of growth, we might need a map just to navigate between halls 😅 In all seriousness, it was fantastic to see everyone and my honor to be part of a thought-provoking panel discussion on payments and investments we had alongside some of the industry's most respected experts: Benjie Cherniak , Melissa Lamb, Peter Heneghan, Tom Waterhouse and Seth Schorr. Thank you all for sharing your invaluable insights and making the session truly impactful and out debate hot! Looking forward to the future developments these conversations will inspire.

On November 18, 1963, Bell Telephone introduced the first touch-tone telephone to the public, the Western Electric model 1500. This marked the debut of the new push-button system, allowing for touch-tone dialing. Customers in Carnegie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania, were the first to enjoy this service, making these towns pioneers of the commercial touch-tone telephone. Product Development: 💡 The concept of push-button dialing dates back to 1887 but only became practical with the invention of the transistor. 🔊 Bell Telephone and Western Electric developed the technology over several years using dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) signaling. 🚀 Touch-tone dialing improved speed and reliability over the rotary system and was a significant advancement in telephony, led by the Bell System (AT&T, Bell Labs, and Western Electric). 🔢 The first push-button telephone had 10 buttons, and engineers considered 15 different keypad layouts before settling on the standard one with 1 at the top left and 0 at the bottom. 🖥️ The addition of # and * keys enabled telephone lines to connect with computers, laying the groundwork for digital communication. ⏳ The rollout was initially delayed due to the need for new decoding equipment at telephone exchanges. 🏠 Push-button telephones became widely adopted in the 1980s and dominated U.S. households by the 1990s. 🎡 On April 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy introduced the public to the new push-button phone technology by using a touch-tone phone in the Oval Office. He pressed "1964" on the keypad to start the countdown for the 1964 New York World's Fair. Thanks Marc. Some key takeaways from the SME session. Most suppliers are SMEs, so for smaller companies and social enterprises lowering the barrier to entry is key. For Suppliers 1. register on etenders .. make sure to find the most relevant cpv codes to meet your business profile.. we have a great tool on our website to help https://greenville.ie/cpv/ 2. consider collaborating with other like minded suppliers including social enterprises 3. prepare a pack with some of the key data requested.. tax clearance from Revenue, insurances generally being employers liability, public liability and product liability and maybe professional indemnity, turnover details, details of quality, health and safety and environmental management systems, staff profile and previous experience. 4. make contact with local buyers first.. start local 5. seek feedback if you fail What buyers can do 1. more use of supplier engagement using pre market consultation on etenders 2. run events locally to engage with firms on a sector or category basis outside of tendering 3. simplify tender process where possible.. don't be asking for turnover unless really necessary, why look for three examples of previous experience when one might be sufficient 4. consider where to position cost.. lower is better 5. use all the flexibility of public procurement not just the standard processes if both sides are braver then we will reap rewards for local, sustainable, innovative procurement for everyone.. looking forward to hearing the success stories. thanks everyone for a great day Ingrid De Doncker, Duncan Walker, Rita Shah, Des Phelan and Fergal Grogan and the Procurex team
Excellent panel discussion at the Procurex conference today at the Royal Dublin Society led by Jeanne Copeland.
