It's that time of year again! Schools are gearing up for mini-term trips, and choosing the right charter bus company is key to ensuring a safe and successful trip. To help you make an informed decision, we've put together a quick checklist. First, verify your driver's name and ensure they have at least two years of driving experience with a charter bus company and are over the age of 25. Second, request a bus that is three years or newer from the charter bus company. By following these simple steps, you can have peace of mind knowing that your students will be in good hands during their mini-term trip. #safetyfirst #charterbus #minitermtrip #education

To date in Ireland 97 people have died in road collisions. These are the highest number of lives lost on the roads in Ireland for over a decade. Behind each one of these numbers is a family and a community grieving the loss of a loved one.As a driving instructor I have an important role in road safety and driver education, I take on this role with great responsibility. There is a belief that the role of a driving instructor is to get someone to pass their test. What if the driving test is not the end of a drivers learning. In Ireland the driving test does not cover emergency stop, parallel parking and is only a brief 30 minute view of how someone drives in a set area.Currently road safety groups in the UK are advocating for making the period after the driving test safer. Black box monitoring for a two year period, passenger restrictions and high risk night driving time restrictions subject to work requirements. These can all make a difference and are needed in Ireland to stop the upward trend in road collisions. My advice for any parent is that learning to be a safer driver takes 100,000km of driving in mixed road conditions. For me the key role of my job is educating safer drivers for life, passing a driving test is just a bonus of learning these life driving skills. As a road safety advocate I will continue to work to get a Learner Driver Support Programme operational in Ireland.Condolences to the families and communities impacted by each friend killed in a road collision. https://lnkd.in/eu4x5sce

A poll of road safety professionals conducted by Road Safety GB has found overwhelming support from the profession for the introduction of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) for newly qualified drivers. 85% of respondents were in favour of GDL, with 8% against its introduction and 7% remaining unsure. Of the measures that can be introduced as part of GDL, restrictions on the number of young passengers was most selected (81%) followed by setting a minimum length of learning and hours of driving experience (71%). There is no such thing as a Driver Shortage, according to the national licensing numbers. There absolutely is a localized Driver Shortage when you account for two variables: Qualifications and Geographic Location. I talk with drivers daily that are having trouble finding a position in this current market. Most of those are not being hired due to their driver history. The most infuriating one from just this week was a driver, with an otherwise spotless record and a handful of clean inspections, that was getting rejections that specifically cited a 10-year old DUI conviction as the reason. Folks, a DUI from a decade ago shouldn't be a disqualifying factor. Not because of an over-zealous safety manager, and not because of an insurance company just looking for a reason to 'mitigate' risk. I could gripe about this issue daily, which wouldn't be fun for anyone. Instead, i'll try to help. Tulsa is hiring bus drivers. Come apply. Cost of living in Oklahoma is red dirt-cheap and the weather is...well, it's hot here. Can't lie about that. Thanks to Samson T. and KJRH for the reporting. #truckingindustry #truckdrivers #tulsa

I fully support using an ELD, without it, I believe drivers such as myself would be forced to drive 16+ hours a day and from my personal experience on how safety sensitive issues are manipulated in the interest of freight (told to run on bad tires, lights that don’t work, documents that are expired, air lines that leak, ELD that doesn’t work), I’m sure someone (usually a dispatcher) in the office would think the driver doesn’t need time off or a reset, So using an ELD keeps that from happening. Heck, we can’t even get respectable home time now with an ELD mandate, so I know if it wasn’t for the FMCSA mandating an ELD I’d NEVER see my own bed, my own house, my own family, It would cease to exist. I fully support being paid $30 an hour, because we don’t get paid for anything else but driving. We deserve to be paid for ALL our work. We work 70 hours a week, at a 40 hour a week rate. Anything else we do besides actually driving is free, Yup! we work for FREE! CPM is outdated, right now the average driver makes .54 cents per mile. Reefer, dry van drivers sometimes have to help load or unload which can take 7+ hours etc. ALL FREE! (Some companies do pay for weather and breakdown issues but it’s not much). Unless the truck tires are turning, it’s usually free labor. Flatbed companies pay around $60 for a driver to secure and tarp a 53’ foot trailer. What about in the winter when the driver is slipping and falling all over the place, is $60 still worth it? Just cause the weather changes, the pay doesn’t. The tarps are around 70 pounds, plus all the straps, chains, etc. Messing with a load for 3 hours, no thank you! 🤮 My cousin makes $25 an hour and only makes $950 a week after taxes, so we both make just as much staying home and working a 9-5 job, without the added hassle. What drivers want is $30 an hour, time and a half over 40 hours and fair wages just like those in the office. A trucking company CEO typically makes $90,000-$160,000 a year. A trucking company expects, 240 days away from home a year for pay that’s worse than a local job… How? I drive, I know what the real truth is! .54 cents per mile never leads to a good paycheck. $30 an hour is not bad at all, based on where things are now. $30/70 hours is $2,100. My weekly checks now are anywhere from $750-$1,188 a week and is what most company drivers make before taxes. So $30 an hour is more than fair. A driver can only drive 11 hours 14 overall and 70 hours over a week. $1,188/70 hours for both driving/on duty work. I took .54x2200x70, and added in the averaged amount of (free) hours (Fuel, Hook Trailer, Loading, Unloading, Break Down, Weather Delays, Etc), it comes to about $16.97 an hour per week. $16.97 AN HOUR to put food on the tables of American Familes and keep this country moving! I’m proud to say I volunteer, in the name of freight.🙄 Welcome to the reality of truck driving in America! 🇺🇸 #truckdriverswantchange

IMPORTANCE OF ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS:- Road safety awareness is vital for several key reasons: 1.Reduction in Accidents and Fatalities: Increasing awareness about road safety can significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities. When people are educated about the dangers of reckless driving, distracted driving, and other risky behaviors, they are more likely to adopt safer practices. 2.Preventing Injuries: Awareness campaigns educate people on the importance of using seat belts, helmets, and child safety seats, which can greatly reduce the severity of injuries in the event of an accident. 3.Promoting Safe Driving Habits: Awareness programs teach and reinforce good driving habits, such as obeying traffic signals, following speed limits, and avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 4.Protecting Vulnerable Road Users: Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in traffic. Road safety awareness can help protect these groups by promoting safe behaviors and the need for drivers to be mindful of them. 5.Encouraging Legal Compliance: Awareness campaigns can educate people about the laws and regulations governing road use, increasing compliance and reducing the likelihood of legal infractions. 6.Economic Savings: Fewer accidents and injuries lead to reduced healthcare costs, lower insurance premiums, and less economic loss from property damage and lost productivity. 7.Enhancing Community Safety: A community that prioritizes road safety creates a safer environment for all its members, reducing the risk of accidents in residential areas and around schools, parks, and other public spaces. 8.Environmental Benefits: Awareness of eco-friendly driving practices, such as reducing speed and avoiding sudden accelerations and decelerations, can lead to lower emissions and fuel consumption, benefiting the environment. 9.Improving Emergency Response: Educating the public on how to respond to accidents, such as providing first aid and contacting emergency services, can improve outcomes for accident victims. 10.Building a Culture of Responsibility: Continuous road safety awareness fosters a culture of responsibility and mutual respect among road users, contributing to overall societal well-being. In summary, road safety awareness is essential for reducing accidents, saving lives, promoting safe driving habits, protecting vulnerable users, and enhancing the overall safety and efficiency of transportation systems. #roadsafety #safedrive #safetyfirst

Safeguarding Our Loved Ones: The Ultimate Driver's Guide to Family Road Safety 🚗💖 As we commemorate the International Day for Families, let's reflect on the paramount importance of keeping our loved ones safe on the road. At The Ultimate Driver Global Network, we're dedicated to providing you with the tools and knowledge necessary to ensure a secure and enjoyable travel experience for your family. Education is paramount. Start by teaching your family members about the importance of road safety from a young age. Encourage open discussions about the risks of reckless driving, and lead by example by practicing defensive driving techniques and adhering to traffic laws. Regular vehicle maintenance is crucial. Ensure your car's brakes, tires, lights, and fluid levels are checked regularly to prevent breakdowns and accidents. A well-maintained vehicle is not only more reliable but also better equipped to protect its occupants in case of a collision. Eliminate distractions while driving. Whether it's texting, adjusting the radio, or attending to children, distractions divert attention from the road and increase the risk of accidents. Make a family pledge to stay focused while driving, and designate a "co-pilot" for tasks like navigation. Always use safety restraints. Seat belts and child safety seats significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash. Ensure everyone in your vehicle is buckled up before setting off, and double-check that child safety seats are properly installed and appropriate for your child's age and size. As we celebrate family, let's reaffirm our commitment to their safety on the road. By prioritizing education, maintenance, attention, and proper restraints, we can create a culture of safety that protects our most precious cargo. Let's embark on every journey with confidence, knowing we've taken every precaution to ensure a safe and memorable travel experience for our families. 🌟👨👩👧👦

Training for newly hired drivers at Alberta-based carriers is a requirement under section 40(1)(e) of the Commercial Vehicle Certificate and Insurance Regulation (AR 314/2002). Specifically, it states carriers have to provide: "training for employees about safety laws and their application and an ongoing program for evaluating their driving skills" This is often interpreted as training in discrete topics as per the screenshot in this post, which is from a Government of Alberta resource. Carriers often satisfy their compliance requirements here by providing their drivers with online/standardized training in that list of topics. However, did you know you don't have to do your training that way? The legislation above is incredibly broad: all applicable safety laws. Even the resource from where I took the screenshot states carriers can do their own training, use a service provider, or any such combination. It also states carriers may have to provide additional training from these common topics based on their operations. So, yes, it's a good idea to consider training in standard, common topics. But, the most important thing is that the training is specific to the individual person's role and the company's operations. Yes, all knowledge is valuable, but a driver operating under Alberta's provincial hours-of-service (HOS) rules doesn't need to be trained on the federal ones. It can be great to work in extra information as part of ongoing training. During orientation, though, probably isn't the best time to do so, given how much information is being passed on. Also, final disclaimer: this is specifically referring to National Safety Code (NSC) rules. There are other training requirements for safety and human resource purposes that also has to be done. --- Feel free to reach out with any questions! --- #safety #truckingsafety #trucking #busingsafety #busing Link to the Government of Alberta's resource "Commercial Vehicle Safety Compliance in Alberta", the source of the screenshot: https://lnkd.in/eNx6DYMe
