Policies can make the desired impact and successfully reach the relevant stakeholders with appropriate public relations outreach, states Jyoti Tanwar in her #RTViews today.
Professional communications organizations (PRSA, International Association of Business Communicators, Society of Professional Journalists, etc.) ALL need to make sure that they are reinforcing their Codes of Professional Conduct. In an ideal world they would work together on something universal and combine their reach and power to really bring about fundamental changes needed to combat deliberate and intentional misleading information (or worse). Yes, it is hard to write history in 'real time' but as I wrote a while back ... False 'News' Should Be Treated as a Dangerous and Defective Product ... with penalties for those who deliberately put out a dangerous product to the public.

Happy to see the Public Relations Society of America release its much-needed guide to tackling misinformation. News illiteracy has undermined our democracy and the consumer landscape. It's important to separate our profession from these lies and help people find the facts they need to make informed decisions. #PRSA
