The AI Race: Insights From 2,773 Global Leaders 🚀🤖 What happens when organizations and technology are running at different speeds? The latest quarterly survey of 2,773 director- to C-suite-level leaders across 14 countries provides a reality check on the state of GenAI in business. Here’s what stood out: 1️⃣ There’s a speed limit. Organizations are still moving at the speed of organizations—not at the pace of technological innovation. That said, 78% of respondents plan to increase their AI spending next year. The race is heating up, but many are still lacing up their shoes. 🏃♂️💻 2️⃣ Barriers are shifting. Regulatory concerns are climbing the list of blockers, jumping from 28% to 38% in the past year. Risk management is also a rising challenge. Scaling GenAI isn’t just about tech anymore—it’s about navigating the red tape. ⚖️🚧 3️⃣ Some areas are sprinting ahead. The IT function leads the pack in GenAI maturity (28% of respondents), while cybersecurity, operations, marketing, and customer service are gaining ground fast. It’s clear where the early wins are happening. 📊✨ 4️⃣ Focus is shifting to core business value. Beyond IT, GenAI is being deployed in areas critical to competitive differentiation and industry success. Translation? GenAI is no longer a nice-to-have; it’s becoming the engine for industry-specific breakthroughs. 🛠️📈 5️⃣ The C-suite is more optimistic. CxOs are notably more bullish on GenAI investments than their non-C-suite counterparts. They’re optimistic about tackling barriers and realizing value faster—but are they too rosy-eyed? 🌅🤔 6️⃣ Agentic AI is gaining traction. Agentic AI, with its ability to tackle complex tasks, is unlocking more GenAI potential. However, it’s not a silver bullet. The same foundational challenges—scaling, regulation, adoption—still apply. 🚀🧠 The Bottom Line: 74% of respondents report that their most advanced GenAI initiative is meeting or exceeding ROI expectations. The potential is real, but so are the challenges. Want to dive deeper? The full report, including six enterprise case studies, is linked in the comments. What’s your take? Digital Transformation 2025: What’s In, What’s Out – My Thoughts The recent article on digital transformation priorities for CIOs in 2025 raises some compelling points about the evolving role of technology leadership. I see this as an opportunity for CIOs to focus on what truly drives measurable value and sustainable growth in an era shaped by AI, changing global dynamics, and rapid technological advancement. Key takeaways I found particularly impactful: 1️⃣ AI-Ready Employees: Upskilling teams for AI adoption is no longer optional—it’s a necessity. Building business acumen within IT teams and democratizing AI access will set organizations apart. 2️⃣ Data and AI Governance: Treating data as a strategic asset is critical. Integrating governance efforts and ensuring data quality will fuel accurate AI-driven decision-making and mitigate risks. 3️⃣ Security, Safety, and Trust: As AI-driven threats evolve, so must our training and awareness programs. A proactive approach to trust-building will safeguard organizational resilience. Equally important is moving away from practices like: ❌ Moonshot AI Innovations Without Clear ROI: Instead, prioritize self-funding, iterative AI-led reinvention that demonstrates real business impact. ❌ Lift-and-Shift Approaches: Digital transformation isn’t just about migrating to the cloud but about reimagining operations to deliver meaningful outcomes. The article highlights that success in 2025 will depend on CIOs embracing transformation as an ongoing, culturally ingrained process. It’s a reminder that we must continuously innovate while aligning technology investments with business priorities. What are your thoughts on these trends? How are you preparing for 2025? 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗔 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗔 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 | 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆? Artificial intelligence is no longer a distant future—it’s here, and it’s accelerating at an unprecedented pace. As we move into 2025, we are entering a year that will challenge businesses, industries, and leaders to rethink 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱. But here is the thing: 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗿. The real disruptor is how organizations choose to respond to it. The companies that will thrive in this era of transformation are not just the ones investing in cutting-edge technology. They are the ones investing in 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🚀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 A thriving AI-driven future is not about replacing jobs, it is about enhancing human potential. Organizations that create environments where employees can learn, adapt, and work alongside AI will be the ones leading the way. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲. 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆—𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 Too often, innovation is seen as a technical challenge rather than a cultural one. But real breakthroughs come from a 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 . The companies that encourage curiosity and allow room for creative problem-solving will set the pace for the future. 🔄 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 As AI reshapes industries, the biggest competitive advantage won’t be technology—it will be 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. Leaders who foster 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 will create workplaces where AI is seen as a tool for empowerment rather than a threat. As we step into 2025, the key question for leaders is not “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁 𝘂𝘀?” but rather, “𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀?” This year is not just about adaptation—it’s about ownership. It is about 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘁. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀? While these advancements are exciting, they also bring complexities that require exceptional leadership to navigate. 💡 Why Leadership Matters More Than Ever: 1️⃣ Visionaries Lead Change: Technology evolves rapidly, but without a clear vision, even the most advanced tools can feel aimless. Leaders ensure these innovations align with long-term goals and deliver real value. 2️⃣ Empowering Teams: The best technology in the world is ineffective without a motivated, skilled team. Great leaders foster an environment of trust, creativity, and continuous learning, enabling their teams to harness the full potential of technology. 3️⃣ Balancing Humanity and Tech: In a world dominated by algorithms, empathy is becoming a superpower. Leaders must ensure the human touch remains central, reminding us that technology is here to serve people—not the other way around. 4️⃣ Cultivating Adaptability: The pace of technological change demands leaders who can pivot quickly, embrace uncertainty, and guide their teams through uncharted territories with confidence and resilience. 5️⃣ Driving Collaboration Across Functions: AI and data don’t operate in silos, and neither should teams. Leaders bridge gaps between technical and business functions, ensuring cohesive strategies and outcomes. ✨ Leadership and Technology—A Synergistic Relationship While AI and ML can automate processes, analyze vast datasets, and offer predictive insights, it is leadership that determines how these capabilities are used to solve real-world problems. From driving ethical AI practices to fostering a culture of innovation, leaders act as the architects of transformation. 🛠 Practical Ways Leaders Can Leverage Technology: Invest in tools and platforms that drive efficiency while maintaining flexibility. Encourage team upskilling to stay ahead in a competitive landscape. Use data to inform decisions, but never underestimate the power of intuition and experience. Lead by example: adopt new technologies to inspire others to do the same. 🌍 Why Now is the Best Time to Lead: The IT landscape is a treasure trove of opportunities, but only for those bold enough to lead with purpose. The role of a leader is no longer confined to managing resources or timelines; it’s about inspiring teams, championing innovation, and creating meaningful impacts. ✨ Great leadership isn’t about keeping up with technology; it’s about staying ahead by connecting tech with purpose. 🔗 What’s your take on leadership in the age of innovation? 🚀 AI is firmly on every CEO's agenda as a Top Priority At the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, one thing became crystal clear: AI is front and center of every CEO’s agenda. The focus is no longer on if AI will transform enterprises but how fast organizations can upskill their teams and integrate AI into every decision-making process. 💡 Key Takeaways: 🔹 The biggest value creation in enterprises is coming from addressing complexity, breaking down decision-making silos, and unlocking efficiency. 🔹 Tribal knowledge will become digital knowledge at scale. Organizations will compete based on the strength of their digital knowledge models, not just products or services. 🔹 Agentic AI, AI-powered agents will reshape management structures, enabling leaner, faster, and more effective decision-making. Operational decisions will become increasingly automated, while AI-driven insights will empower executives to focus on strategic impact. 🔹 Agility and innovation will accelerate. With AI’s ability to reconfigure processes and evolve capabilities, businesses can execute new strategies faster than ever before. The bottom line? Enterprises that embrace AI-driven management systems today will lead the future. The call to action for CEOs is clear—prioritize AI-powered transformation now or risk falling behind. The year 2024 was marked by significant changes and challenges for business leaders, driven by conflict and transformation. Leaders had to reassess their risk appetite and adapt to new technologies, particularly generative AI, which introduced both opportunities and risks. Agentic AI, which operates autonomously, allowed employees to focus on other tasks while AI handled decision-making and problem-solving. As digital labor evolved, employees gained the power to increase productivity and redefine workflows, challenging traditional leadership notions. Leaders needed to delegate more decisions to keep pace with innovations, empowering teams to rethink workflows and deploy AI agents for improved performance and competitive advantage. Despite the urgency to adopt generative AI, only a quarter of executives felt their IT infrastructure could support scaling AI across the enterprise. Leaders faced the challenge of balancing agility and security. The IBM Institute for Business Value (IBM IBV), in partnership with Oxford Economics, surveyed 400 global leaders to understand their challenges and expectations in an AI-driven competitive landscape. The survey revealed that while leaders struggled to transform operations with AI, they anticipated a major breakthrough. A significant majority believed AI would enable business model and product/service innovation in the next few years. Organizations planned to push teams forward rapidly, with a shift from experimenting with AI to scaling and innovating with it by 2025. To capitalize on AI, leaders needed to empower their people with the right tools, training, and decision-making authority. Strategic reskilling, security measures, and data-driven support were essential for success. An IBM https://lnkd.in/dHWekZ3w report identifies five key trends for 2025: 1, Agentic AI will transform businesses, but reskilling is crucial. 2. Technical debt continues to grow despite efforts to manage it. 3. Location is critical in the age of AI. 4. The rapid shift to AI impacts IT budgets, but self-funding is expected. 5. AI-driven product and service innovation is a top CEO goal, but business models need to keep up. Organizations that effectively leverage these trends and overcome obstacles will gain a competitive edge in the coming years. #2025Trends #AgenticAI #BusinessTransformation
