Orchard management isn’t just a job, nor is it really just a career, it’s a way of life. You live it, you breathe, and it consumes you whole. Managing orchards definitely isn’t the easiest work I’ve ever done, but I do feel it down to my core. You’re the first one onsite every morning, the last one to leave each night, you tend and care for your clients orchards as if they were your own. When you’re not working alongside staff on the orchard, there’s timesheets, invoices, spray diary entries, GAP, tracking budgets, ensuring targets are being met, all while motivating an entire team of people and yourself. I haven’t experienced a season yet where blood, sweat and tears weren’t shed in the making of a crop. Managing orchards gives me a fire in my belly that I can’t quite explain. It’s an addiction to do better and to be better as each season goes by. It forces you to learn and adapt and sometimes question everything you think you know about growing. It’s a competition against yourself and those around you to grow the best quality crop, achieve the lowest reject rates, achieve the highest TZG, earn your growers the best possible OGR’s, and to be the best manager there is. Not long to go now till I get to see my beauties in a box 🥝 #Trevelyans #Trevelyansmanagedorchards #orchardmanagement #kiwifruit

Does anyone really read Animal Farm? I "read it" in 8th grade at my very private and very Southern school. I don't remember much, but I remember the scene when the other farm animals watched the pigs walk out of the farmer's house on their hind legs, standing up. Relatedly, maybe, I've been experiencing weird founders' growth issues. When we started, everyone was stepping over each other everyday at our operations hub, which was actually a one-acre plot with a creek and feral chickens in the middle of the Houston Heights. Today, we are 18 folks spread across 3 cities, all working remotely. Recently, I find myself randomly calling team members to tell them I miss them. It feels oddly vulnerable, but urgent nonetheless. The job we all do everyday is pretty straight forward. We save food waste and its embedded nutrients from the landfill. We divvy up responsibilities among collectors, evangelists, operations managers, data managers, and bean counters. What I miss is the feeling that we were all relating everyday. At a USCC conference in 2022, one of the co-founders of a peer company explained to me their hiring process, and it stuck with me how intensive it was. So many touch points across so many varying groups. At the time, I scoffed. It stuck with me, though, kinda like that scene from Animal Farm did. I'm not sure what we are building here Moonshot. I know it's working, and I know it's growing. I know we are way smarter than we used to be. And I know I miss the way it used to be. And I know we have to be more than 10x bigger one day than we are today. Everyday, we are offered the opportunity to re-invent ourselves in the vision of the next opportunity we are selling. So far, we check every opportunity against our values: is it safe, does it make a difference for the potential subscriber, does it hurt our current business, is it a net positive for the environment, does it cover our margin? There's a couple more check points, but that's pretty much it. As we grow larger, I'm adding another test: does it have me walking out of the farmer's house on my hind legs?

Dandelion and Burdock - many have heard the name, but not everyone realises that this drink was traditionally made by fermenting the roots of the two plants - Dandelion and Burdock, both of which are very common in the wild! In reality there are many edible uses for the plants, especially Dandelion. In this video we talk about the edible parts of Dandelion and Burdock, or at least my favourite parts anyway! #dandelion #burdock #edibleplants #wildcamping #foraging #wildfood

A mango grove provides the owner four separate fruit picking opportunities for in each season(harvest). Baby mangos, younger green mangos, fully formed green mangos, and ripe mangos. Believe it not, ripe mangos often are the least profitable crop( category). Why? Most farms are producing ripe mangos at the same time, shelf life is very short, and direct to consumers sales are limited. The reason why direct to consumers is limited especially in South Florida, is because of the large number of mango trees in single family homes producing ripe fruit at the same time as the groves. A great strategy for a new mango plantation is to plant varieties that produce fruit during the low season or at the extreme beginning of season. Large mango groves have even attempted to convert all ripe fruit to process food items: dry fruit, pulp, jellies, jams, and chutneys. Speciality mangoes are usually the most profitable set up for newer groves. Mango groves are available for sale, please feel free to call me. I am at your service to help you find your ideal property. From contracts to cowboy boots: fall is when my two worlds collide. 👩💻 🤠 Fall is about bringing things home, both on the ranch and in the office. It's the final push to round up the year's efforts and close them successfully. In the office, the calendar pages flip rapidly towards EOY: it's the final sprint, where every contract counts and every deal can make or break the annual targets. No pressure, right? On the ranch, fall signals the return of the herd from the vast forest pastures. They've spent the summer roaming, but now it's time to saddle up and bring them home for the winter. Both worlds, seemingly disparate, share a rhythm of urgency and precision. Just as herding cattle requires strategy and foresight, so does negotiating contracts. Each contract wrangled is a steer guided home, each deal closed a successful season wrapped up. As we ride into this year's sunset, let's tip our hats to the harvesters, ranchers, and deal-makers. 🌅 Whether you're navigating fine print or fields, may your contracts, crops, and herds be bountiful. 📄🌾🐮 #inhousecounsel #ranching #contractmanagement #fallharvest #corporatelaw #agriculture
