A warm invitation is extended to all as Dr Jared Cooney Horvath presents at ACSA’s EVENT 14: AI, Tech, and Learning: A dangerous triumvirate Abstract: AI/technologies are with us and the future… The last two years has seen a tremendous upsurge in the push to incorporate AI into teaching and learning practices. Unfortunately, this push was done with little foresight and even less data. Supporting educators with developing skills of critical and informed use of technologies is important. In this Webinar Jared will explore the problems and opportunities of incorporating AI into education and consider why this tool can never replace human teaching. Beyond this, we will explore the larger issue of digital technologies in school, examine why they may both support and potentially harm learning (and have been doing so for 40 years), and how to push back against unnecessary tech inclusion within schools. Finally, we will consider several concrete principles of learning we can adapt to help improve the efficacy of AI and digital tech. ~ Wednesday 4 September 2024 (note change of date) | 5pm-6pm (AEST), 4:30pm – 5:30pm (CST) ~ Register here: https://lnkd.in/gf9JYYSk Further queries to the ACSA Office: acsa@acsa.edu.au

🚀 "Generative AI in Education: A Double-Edged Sword?" 📚 The rise of generative AI in education is thrilling—imagine a world where learning is personalized, efficient, and bursting with creativity. The possibilities are endless! But as with any powerful tool, there are serious risks if we don’t tread carefully. As we weave AI into our classrooms, we need to be mindful of the potential pitfalls. Without proper safeguards, generative AI could unintentionally amplify biases, threaten privacy, and even undermine the critical thinking skills we’re trying to nurture. Think about it: AI has the incredible ability to generate original content. But what happens when that content mirrors the biases coded into it by humans? We risk perpetuating harmful stereotypes and prejudices if we're not vigilant. Privacy is another big concern. As AI collects more data to customize learning experiences, we have to ask: How do we ensure this data isn’t misused? Protecting the privacy of both students and teachers should be a top priority. And then there’s the matter of critical thinking. If AI makes generating content too easy, are we setting students up to rely too much on technology? We must strike a balance between leveraging AI’s capabilities and fostering independent thought. As we move towards a future where AI plays a central role in education, let’s make sure it’s enhancing, not hindering, human learning. What steps do you think we should take to ensure generative AI is a force for good in our classrooms? 🤔 #GenerativeAI #EdTech #AIinEducation #DataPrivacy #TestSavantAI

🌍 Ethical Guidelines: AI in Schools 📚🤖 Artificial intelligence is revolutionising education, but with this advancement comes great responsibility. My latest visual explores key ethical considerations that we must address to ensure AI benefits all students fairly and effectively. Having used AI for the last 18 months and as a whole school Digital Learning Leader at my current school, I’m deeply invested in how we can integrate AI in equitable, ethical, and supportive ways for both students and teachers. If you’re rolling out AI with staff for the first time, and want to avoid overwhelming them, this graphic offers a great introduction to the ethics of AI in education. It’s important to set the right foundation before fully embracing AI in your school. 🧠 Bias in AI: AI algorithms can amplify existing societal biases, leading to unequal outcomes for students. We must remain vigilant to avoid this. 🔒 Privacy Concerns: Student data privacy is crucial. We must ensure that AI tools are used responsibly, safeguarding sensitive information from misuse. 👩🏫 Teacher's Role: AI should be a tool that enhances, not replaces, teachers' invaluable role. Human interaction remains central to learning. ⚖️ Access & Equity: AI must be accessible to all students, regardless of socioeconomic background. No one should be left behind. AI is here to stay, but we must implement it carefully and carefully to foster an inclusive, secure, and supportive educational environment. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a game-changer in the field of education in the 21st century. AI systems offer effective support for offline and online learning and teaching, including personalizing learning for students, automating instructors’ routine tasks, and powering adaptive assessments. AI tools can enhance education by promoting critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, with a particular focus on the benefits for homeschooling parents, educators . However, while the opportunities for AI are promising, the impact of AI systems on the culture of, norms in, and expectations about interactions between students and instructors are still elusive. Therefore, it is important to design AI systems to ensure explainability, human-in-the-loop, and careful data collection and presentation. Many thanks to Cambridge University Press and Assessment and the facilitators- Evelina Galaczi and Raquel Ribeiro for an educative session. #Cambridge University Press & Assessment

Connecting and telling the stories of social impact using evidence and design | VP-Evidence Generation | Credentialed Evaluator | Strategic Designer
Some useful reflections from John Nash are that AI can serve as a force for good in education if we consider the scope, role, and potential implications and define the domains in which we seek to use it. That last part is critical. AI isn't some omnibus tool but a set of technologies with specific application sets. Thanks for your leadership in this fast-moving, emergent area, John. #education #AI
Generative AI in education is a double-edged sword. It's exciting but risky without the right guidelines. Here are some high level steps to ensure AI technologies serve as a force for good. Discuss these with leadership: • Identify the scope: What educational areas will AI impact? Curriculum development, personalized learning, or administrative tasks? • Address ethical concerns: Ensure AI applications do not introduce biases or unfair advantages. • Establish usage protocols: Who can use AI, and for what purposes? Clear policies prevent misuse. • Promote transparency: How are AI tools making decisions? Users should understand the AI processes affecting what happens in the school. • Ensure accountability: Set up mechanisms to address any issues arising from AI usage. • Encourage ongoing education: Continuous learning about AI advancements for educators and administrators is crucial. Key takeaway: Thoughtful AI guidelines can support healthy use, and make learning more personalized, efficient, and engaging. However, it requires careful planning and consideration of potential pitfalls. Conversations are where it all starts. #generativeAI #ethics #leadership #schools

The AI Revolution in Education: Transformative, Yet Needing Guardrails Artificial Intelligence is transforming the education landscape like never before, opening up incredible opportunities for personalised learning, automating tasks, and enhancing both teaching and learning experiences. However, while AI offers significant potential, its effectiveness hinges on understanding when and how to use it. Without clear frameworks and policies, AI can become a trap - leading to misuse or superficial engagement, benefiting neither students nor educators. 🎯 Why Frameworks and Policies Matter: 1. Empower Educators: Teachers need structured training to seamlessly integrate AI tools into their classrooms without feeling overwhelmed by the technology. 2. Benefit Students: AI can be a game-changer or a distraction for learners. Policies are essential to ensure AI is used effectively to enhance critical thinking rather than as a shortcut that diminishes learning outcomes. 3. Ethical & Responsible Use: The power of AI also comes with responsibility. Frameworks are crucial to ensure ethical use, data privacy, and avoiding bias so that AI implementation supports equitable learning environments. AI is a tool, not a replacement for the human element in education. To leverage its full potential, we need well-defined strategies that guide its application. Otherwise, we risk seeing its promise fade into irrelevance. #AIinEducation #EdTech #FutureOfLearning #ResponsibleAI #DigitalTransformation
