Hey friends, it's brick wall here. I'm here in Washington DC where the American Cancer Society and 70 collaborating organizations are kicking off the first ever national Prostate Cancer Roundtable. Roundtable is a proven method to bring together the leading organizations on a specific topic together to speak in a unified voice to solve complex problems. At the American Study, we've launched now 7 different roundtables. The prostate one is the most recent and the idea is to focus on three different areas that remain a problem for us here in the United States. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer in many United States and what we've noticed is. Fathers, a period of time where the number of cancers being diagnosed, we're going down, that's actually shifted. It's reversed. More people getting diagnosed with prostate cancer than before. In particular those with advanced stage disease is going up and up, meaning those cancers that are harder to treat, that may need chemotherapy or advanced treatments are getting worse. So what are we going to do about it? Well, we bring folks together in this roundtable model to talk about it, but then take action. In particular, the roundtables are focused on three areas. The 1st is screening and how we use different methods to get more cancer diagnosed early. Second, local regional management. We know that not all cancers need chemotherapy, so how do we use more innovative techniques to reduce morbidity, increased quality of life and also lead to more durable cures? And 3rd, how do we manage advanced or metastatic disease to both balance quality of life but lead to more and better days? To learn more about roundtables, go to cancer.org/roundtable.
