I was reading this morning a story in Tempe, Arizona of a "car-free" community. Gaining more interest and curiosity, I started searching for more stories broadly about creating 15-20 minute communities/cities and came across my friend Andre Brumfield on CNBC talking about this topic three years ago. Just last year, the World Economic Forum announced its support around developing 15-minute cities starting with Paris and South Korea. Saudi Arabia is building a $1 trillion project called The Line (https://lnkd.in/gyzEkZVQ). So how can Chicago become a 15-minute city (and even 5-7 minute neighborhoods), which you can get anywhere in the city in less than 15-minutes? And this is without squeezing everyone into an apartment or making having a car optional. We will never rid ourselves completely cars as we have car lovers, including myself who one day want a customized 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. We spend billions on repairing and building highways to sit in traffic, millions on salt during the winter, and ruining our mental and physical health. This is why we should invest to diversify industries in neighborhoods. Would love to see Chicago develop a plan of the future to transform the city into a 15-minute city with real goals, objectives, metrics, and funding. We can compete on a national and global scale, which can grow our population, increase socioeconomic growth, and improve mental and physical health outcomes. As Andre stated, the pandemic has changed our society and cities can no longer operate as business as usual. We will continue to run into budget deficits because we are still trying to operate on the same 20th century model when society has dramatically shifted. https://lnkd.in/gw8CEFjn

We believe our work has an impact on our community. This is something we take very seriously. At D.M. Wills our definition of community is vast yet specific: Community is the place, the Towns and Cities, where our team member live and work; Community is the people that we impact daily through our teams’ work both inside and outside the office. Community is a commitment to our team members to foster an work environment where they can be their best and have maximum impact. Building communities goes beyond physical structures to involve the sense of belonging a community holds. Not just buildings, but places where people feel safe, comfortable, and at home. People’s “third spaces” — another place outside of home and work where they belong. At Wills, we understand the importance of maintaining a positive and harmonious relationship with our community and we do our best day in and out to making a lasting positive impact on each community.

COMMUNITY: The foundation of prosperous, sustainable neighborhoods is community. Communities are more than just buildings; they give their citizens a feeling of support, protection, and belonging. They offer opportunities for interpersonal communication, teamwork, and shared experiences that improve lives and forge enduring relationships. In today's fast-paced world, where digital connections often overshadow face-to-face interactions, the role of community in housing developments becomes even more paramount. It serves as a counterbalance to the isolation and detachment that can pervade life as we know it, offering residents a vital sense of connection to something larger than themselves.

How can seniors and children thrive when Imagine chooses to OPT OUT of LANDLORD DUTIES (12)(a) (v) Whether the building has an emergency notification plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants; (vi) Whether the building has an emergency relocation plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants; and (vii) Whether the building has an emergency evacuation plan for the occupants and, if so, provide a copy to the occupants. (b) The information required under this subsection may be provided to a tenant in a multifamily residential building either as a written notice or as a checklist that discloses whether the building has fire safety and protection devices and systems. The checklist shall include a diagram showing the emergency evacuation routes for the occupants. How is opting out of these fire emergency safety rules letting seniors thrive ?
In an area shaped by the tech industry, with high-performing schools and desirable jobs, neighborhoods, and parks, we create communities where individuals and families can put down roots, where kids can be kids, and where seniors can age in place.

Ever wondered about the origins of online communities? Meet Community Memory – the OG of all online communities. Kickstarted it all back in 1973 in Berkeley, California, this revolutionary project was more than just a bulletin board; it was a vision of connectivity and belonging. From humble beginnings to global networks, Community Memory taught us that community isn’t just a place; it’s a state of mind. Sound familiar? Yep, that's the heartbeat of what we do every day - building communities. Fast forward to today, and we're still channeling that same energy. We're building bridges, forging connections, and making magic happen – just like our Community Memory members did. So here's to you, the modern-day pioneers and the OGs. ✨ #communitybuilders #communitybuilding #communitymanagement

Very excited to start having more conversation around local news organizations working to help build relationships and understanding between neighbors. We need a Mr. Rogers style education around the basics of living side by side with people who are different than us and what that means for day to day life. I care about a general population strategy for American local news, which means getting real about where the majority of people in this country are at. Many people are less partisan than we think and are extraordinarily nuanced in their beliefs. What would it look like for local news organizations to host community conversations and think more about their role in facilitating social cohesion and bridging divides so that neighbors can meet and relate to each other more deeply? Local news playing a role in helping a community find its collective “heart and soul” in this new era could be a step forward that may help with the pathway to civic engagement.

Vancouver, WA has a fantastic community vibe about it. Everywhere you look they mention city/community pride and togetherness. When you give a community a voice. When you give them a vehicle to express themselves. When you give them “old world values” and “new world technology”, you build bridges within communities. Bridges between groups of people. Bridges between groups of ideas. Bridges between age groups. Bridges between brilliant ideas. You don’t have to do the work you just need to connect people, companies, visions, dreams. Who’s doing this in your town? Who’s igniting the community? Who’s bringing together associations and groups and ideas into action? Why couldn’t you or your company do this for your community. Your staff. Their families. Your clients and their businesses. Everything to do with why you are in business to start with. You can do this 😁🤙
