Each member is exceptional, but the game-changer? The handoff. A smooth transition can mean the difference between gold and silver, just like we recently saw at the Track and Field World Championships where a fumbled handoff cost Team USA dearly. 🦷 How does this relate to dentistry? A world-class front office team and an equally skilled back office team are great, but without effective systems - or "Relays" - in place, the practice won’t function seamlessly as a team. 🔑 Solution: Implement a robust Handoff process in your patient flow. Here’s how best practices look: 🔄 FRONT DESK HANDOFF: [Assistant escorts patient to the front desk] Assistant to FD: "Ms. Smith had a great appointment. We've scheduled her next cleaning in 6 months." Assistant provides a routing slip with completed treatment details (or this info is entered directly in the operatory). 🔄 HYGIENIST TO DOCTOR HANDOFF: [Doctor enters the operatory] Hygienist to Doctor: "Ms. Smith's overall homecare is good. We've discussed flossing techniques and identified a sensitive area on tooth #30. There's also a potential fracture on #14." Your handoff process should be tailored to your practice but must include clear communication between the back and front office about completed treatments and future appointments.
