It's not a secret that care quality in behavioral health is inconsistent. According to the APA, only 20% of behavioral health care delivered is considered evidence-based. At Fort Health, we are committed to care quality and evidence-based practice. 10 things I've learnt in 10 years of patient support and advocay for #FND 🥳 (I missed the milestone as my decade anniversary was actually in May but I was busy submitting that PhD): 1) I've learnt so much about myself, my illness and my personal development. I've learnt to accept myself and turn my lived experiences into something that matters. 2) I've achieved things I never thought I'd be capable of and how to be resourceful and creative. Operating large scale projects on limited resources because there's often little funding in this environment 3) There is power in community. Collaborations with others are taking my work to new heights and I have loved the opportunity to engage with so many different people, professionals and communities throughout this time and continue to build the communities I am part of. 4) creating a safe space for those with #longterm conditions is the most powerful and moving thing you can do 5) #hiddenillness deserves and warrants societal attention!! It's everyone's responsibility to create a safe space and a safe society 6) If you have a story, share it proudly. Inspiring others is not a sign of vanity. Advocacy is so crucial in raising awareness and securing resources. 7) There is nothing like connecting with someone who understands you because of your shared experience of a condition that few understand 8) There is so much stigma in society against those with long term and hidden conditions. 9) Health Matters. Brain health Matters in both health and illness. This doesn't need to be clinical and often happens in the most creative ways. 10) education comes in many forms. Empowering people to manage symptoms, building skills so volunteers can have meaning & impact, promoting social inclusion and peer support activities are all necessary. As is education for health care professionals and policy makers here's to the next 10 years!

Request For Proposals: Team of Consultants to Develop Youth-Facing Educational Substance Use Prevention Resources PHIMC launched a new Chicago-based program, Regional Substance Use Prevention Integration Centers (RSUPIC), aimed at collaborating with community-based organizations to integrate substance use prevention strategies with other types of youth-focused prevention efforts. In a separate but related project, PHIMC seeks to work with a team of consultants to develop youth-facing, trauma-informed educational materials geared toward youth who may be exposed to substance use in their homes and/or communities. There are three distinct consultant roles for this project – Content and Resource Materials Development, Communications and Design, and Evaluation. An overview of the opportunity is posted below, which includes a link to the full RFPs. Yesterday was a difficult day for one of Phoenix Institute’s clinical sites. The department in which our students ride, experienced two separate motor vehicle accidents that resulted in the death of 4 people, including a pediatric patient. Their were also several other critical patients on both scenes. Last night as I was finishing dinner, one of my students receached out to me letting me know that they were riding clinical at one of the stations that responded to the worse of the two MVCs. The incident the student responded to involved 3 DOAs (including the pediatric death), and ejection and an enroute to hospital traumatic arrest. They told me that the crew said they could leave once they returned to the station, as they were going to conduct an CISM debrief. I am not sure if they asked them to stay and they left or if they just didn’t ask (I am following up on that). As a clinical coordinator, I immediately got to work looking for and sending my student resources to help them deal with the stress and trauma they had just experienced. I know how critically important it is to ensure my students have immediate access to mental health services following event like this and will do anything I can to make sure they are properly care for. Not only did I reach out and make she she had access to resources, the school staff and I talked and coordinated times that we would be reaching out to touch base with the student as well, we extended all assignment due dates and offered to be with her when she wrote her PCR if she needed us to be. Being a EMS program staff member not only involves ensuring your student knows the job and knows how to perform their skills, but also that they know when and how to reach out for support.
