LESSON 1: What are Power Transformers? Power transformers are electrical instruments used in transmitting electrical power from one circuit to another without changing the frequency. They operate by the principle of electromagnetic induction. They are used in transmitting electrical power between generators and distribution primary circuits. Power transformers are used to step up or step down the voltage in distribution networks. Since they have no rotating or moving parts, these instruments are considered static devices. These instruments work based on an alternating current (AC) electrical system. A power transformer is a mere classification of transformers with a voltage range varying between 33 kV-400 kV and a rating above 200 MVA. The voltage ratings of power transformers available in the market include 400 kV, 200 kV, 110 kV, 66 kV, and 33 kV. The other types of transformers include distribution (230 V-11kV) and instrument transformers. Power transformers are essential in minimizing substantial energy losses, due to Joule’s effect, in the transmission of large amounts of electrical power over long distances by converting it into high-voltage current then stepping it down to a safer low-voltage current. They are commonly found in power plants, industrial plants, and electric utility companies. #transformers #powertransformer #powertransformers

Ever wondered what a transformer is, where you'd use one and how it can help you? We have all your answers below 👇 💥A transformer can transfer electrical voltage from one voltage to another. It is an electrical device that transfers electric energy by electromagnetic induction. It is generally used in industry for converting a high voltage, primary supply, typically 33KV / 11KV to a secondary low voltage supply at 415V. 👷♂️Transformers are also widely used as single and three-phase power supply units in power generation plants, substations, distribution systems, and step-down regulators in industrial equipment. 👉In general, a TX is used to convert voltage, it keeps the same KVA power in / out rating but amps will vary depending of course on voltage. A standard TX will also keep the same frequency output as input, so a general TX unit is not a frequency converter also, this is something completely different. 👉Some TX units can be multi tapped allowing for various voltage outputs, they can also have neutral connection points and be used as isolation transformers when the application requires. 👉When is a Transformer Required? When you need to change voltages, this can be to either step up, or step down the voltage. Often used to take high voltage to much safer, lower voltages. 👉Which Type of Transformer is Used in Industry? There are several different types but the most common is the grid mains TX units rated to 11KV/415V, oil filled and DYN11 type connections. 👉Can Transformers work with DC? Yes, but they must be specifically rated for DC operation and tend to be more for smaller power supplies, rather than large AC loads. Our Transformers We offer a variety of TX units, with ratings up to 3MVA and voltages from 110V to 33Kv inclusive (3 phase and neutral). As standard, these are oil filled, outdoor rated and to various vector group options to suit your application. #MaintenanceEngineering #TemporaryPower #Transformers

🔌 Transformers: The Backbone of Electrical Systems 🔌 Transformers play a pivotal role in the efficient transmission and distribution of electrical power. Here’s a closer look at their importance and types: 1.Step-Up Transformers: These increase the voltage from the power plant to high levels for efficient long-distance transmission, reducing energy loss. 2. Step-Down Transformers: These decrease the voltage to safer levels for use in homes and businesses. 3. Distribution Transformers: Found on utility poles or underground, they step down voltage to the final usable levels for consumers. 4.Power Transformers: Used in transmission networks, they handle high voltages and are essential for grid stability. 5. Isolation Transformers: Provide electrical isolation between two circuits, enhancing safety and reducing noise. 6. Instrument Transformers: Include current and voltage transformers, used for measuring and protection in high-voltage circuits. Transformers are essential for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of our electrical infrastructure. Understanding their functions helps us appreciate the complexity and ingenuity behind our power systems. ⚡🌍 #ElectricalEngineering #PowerSystems #Transformers #Energy.

Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Gas Insulated Switchgear is a composite device encapsulated in a solid metal frame that houses different electrical devices such as circuit breakers, bus bars, instrument transformers, earthing switches, etc. All these devices are immersed in sulfur hexafluoride gas (SF6) inside shielded compartments that are bordered by barrier devices. The main function of a GIS substation is to switch, separate, transform, measure and distribute electrical energy in power systems. The main feature of a GIS device is the use of SF6, an inert gas with exceptional insulation properties, and chemical and thermal stability. ⚡ Overview of Current Transformer 🔌 : ▶ A current transformer is a device that is used for the transformation of current from a higher value into a proportionate current to a lower value. It transforms the high voltage current into the low voltage current due to which the heavy current flows through the transmission lines is safely monitored by the ammeter. ▶ The current transformer is used with the AC instrument, meters or control apparatus where the current to be measured is of such magnitude that the meter or instrument coil cannot conveniently be made of sufficient current carrying capacity. ▶ The primary and secondary current of the current transformers are proportional to each other. The current transformer is used for measuring the high voltage current because of the difficulty of inadequate insulation in the meter itself. The current transformer is used in meters for measuring the current up to 100 amperes. POWER PROJECTS #currenttransformer #transformer #electricallearning #powersystem #electricalknowledge
