As a daughter of immigrants and an immigrant myself, I often reflect on how to discuss the significance of Hispanic Heritage Month with my children. It’s a time to honor our ancestors, who maintained their freedom and autonomy despite the challenges they faced. We recognize their courage to speak up and fight against injustices they encountered daily.
Thinking back on the sacrifices made by my parents in pursuit of the American dream, I remember living with my grandmother in the small town of Ciudad Guerrero, with fewer than 5,000 people, while my parents immigrated. This experience shaped my journey in unexpected ways, giving me time to dream by my grandmother’s side and develop a deep care for others.
My career in the gas industry began at the Phillips Los Angeles refinery, where I discovered a passion for ensuring the safety of frontline workers, many of whom come from backgrounds like mine. I always think about how they can return home safely to their families. Leveraging technical expertise, process safety, and innovation, I strive to make a real difference.
I have the privilege of leading a global team and connecting with amazing individuals from around the world. I attribute my leadership style, deep care for people, resilience, and adaptability to my Latin heritage. I love getting to know the people I engage with and bring passion to every endeavor, whether it’s cooking, gardening, or setting engineering strategies to support our businesses globally.
