Quite an insightful topic here, our thoughts are: An employer is only liable when the incident is work-related. Both an organization's WFH Policy and a country's labour laws provide the precept on what should be adhered to while handling employees' incidents when working away from their office site. A company that supports all or some of their employees to work from home should have a policy and procedures manual to ensure there's clarity on expectations of both the employer and employee. This could cover areas such as Working hours, Timekeeping and Reporting Timelines, Communication Guidelines, Technology Usage, Security Protocols & Data Protection Guidelines, Netiquette (especially for virtual meetings), Approval Procedure & WFH Cost Implications. 2. An employer can only assume responsibility of an incident that has occurred to an employee working from home guided by Labour Laws in their country such as the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA) 2007 in Kenya which provides direction for compensation to employees for work related injuries and diseases contracted in the course of their employment.

#RemoteWork comes with many benefits, and #flexibility is one of the most important. Being able to choose to work from home or anywhere else, or go to the office to share with your colleagues and attend strategic meetings, is what we’re looking for these days. No one wants to spend two hours commuting each way just to sit in a gray, poorly lit office and be on Zoom calls all day.
