I’m thrilled to share that Ryan DuChanois and I have been selected as part of #ActivateCohort2024 in the Activate Houston Community! This is a huge step for us and we are ready to dive in! ICYMI: On Friday, CHIPS for America announced a new $5 million Entrepreneurial Fellowship Pilot Program, funded by the Biden-Harris Administration's CHIPS and Science Act, to support up to 10 early-stage companies focused on innovation in semiconductor manufacturing technologies. Applications for the 2025 Cohort will close on October 23, 2024. The first cohort of CHIPS R&D Entrepreneurial Fellows is expected to be selected in spring 2025. The application portal for the Pilot Program can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gXqS7Sy The Pilot will allow Fellows to develop their technologies and business operations while identifying the commercial strategies and manufacturing scale-up opportunities needed for sustained domestic production. CHIPS R&D will oversee the Pilot in collaboration with Activate.org, a nonprofit organization that launched the entrepreneurial fellowship model at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and has partnered with other Federal agencies. Climatetech entrepreneurs will stay and scale here in #Massachusetts if we provide them with the resources they need to succeed. Some of those innovators may even open businesses and create jobs in their hometowns, like Allium Engineering Co-Founder and CEO Steven Jepeal. Yesterday, Steve cut the ribbon on the company’s new advanced #manufacturing facility in his hometown of #Billerica! This new space provides Allium with the room to manufacture its coated rebar technology, an innovation that extends the life of infrastructure, reduces carbon emissions, and makes our built environment more resilient to a changing climate. I had the privilege of meeting with Steven and Allium’s Co-Founder and CTO Sam McAlpine during yesterday’s ceremony, where I was able to speak about how Massachusetts Clean Energy Center has supported this exciting #climatetech manufacturer along with quasi-governmental partners like Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and nonprofit partners like Activate Boston. It was great to see local, county, and state leaders in the room to congratulate the Allium team, including State Representative Marc Lombardo, Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, MassTech’s Ben Linville-Engler, and Billerica Town Manager Clancy Main, MPA and Select Board Chair John Burrows. This was a special event for those of us at MassCEC – we’ve supported Allium with funding through our Emerging Climatetech grant programs, 2030 Investment Fund, and internship program. It’s exciting to see Steve and Sam turn their idea into a growing business! Shout-out to Leslie Nash and Maddy Zeliff from MassCEC’s Tech-to-Market team for their hard work empowering Allium and climatetech startups across Massachusetts. And many thanks to Activate Boston’s Elizabeth Kennedy and Daniel Recht for organizing the event. Congratulations to the entire Allium Engineering team!
