🚀 Exciting News: Beta Testing Launch of Elysa App! 📱❤️🩹 Hello LinkedIn community! 👋 We are thrilled to announce the beta build of Elysa app, a project we've poured our heart and soul into! ELYSA (Emotional Life Yielding Supportive AI) is a personal emotional wellness companion which helps you through your tough times and challenges in the life ❤️🩹 Originally, our plan was to use the OpenAI’s ChatGPT model to craft a personalized AI companion. We even got the API key to kickstart the project. However, as we progressed, we realized the sensitive data we are dealing with, our focus shifted towards user privacy. To address this, we went back to drawing board, saying goodbye to the GPT model and shifted our focus towards On Device Generative AI using a SLM. This transition aligns seamlessly with our commitment to privacy by keeping all conversations offline and secure. 🔒 The journey of adapting local SLM was not without its hurdles. With no prior expertise and working on the bleeding edge technology is no small feat. We dedicated over a month into researching and building the prototype to make SLM decently functional on a mid-tier mobile phone. While it might not be the absolute best, it's undeniably the pioneering Local SLM addressing a genuine problem. We commit to improving in the performance and the output making Generative AI accessible to the masses. While performing internal testing with friends and family, we have received an overall positive response. This is the first step to build something big and we have a greater vision in our mind. Thought provoking post by Lori MacVittie re: #GenerativeAI and #latency. The problem with latency is that states are changing while you wait, so whatever "reasoning" is being done might not leverage the latest information. In time-sensitive and mission-critical use cases that's a No-Go problem. You wouldn't want your collision avoidance or turn-by-turn Navigation to be even 2-3 seconds late, same would apply for factory automation or robotic surgery, etc. Those may be dramatic, but even issues with ordering and inventory require tight synchronization and determinism. I think the answer is hybrid-AI - GenAI with classic AI, analytics and rules-based logic to get best performance and outcomes. The antidote to #GenAI hype is solid architecture, separation of concerns, fitness for purpose! As I'm sure Lori appreciates - there is no school, like the old school : )
