And just like that, my time at Beamery has come to an end. It’s been 2.5 years of learnings, so here are 🖐️ 5 🖐️ of the most important lessons I take away. 1️⃣ On leadership - The most important job of a leader is to unblock his/her reportees. I had the privilege of managing 3 very talented marketers during my time at Beamery. And I’m super glad to see that all 3 have gone on to move up the ladder and do incredible things, as long as I stayed out of their way 😁 2️⃣ Enterprise sales is tough - as marketers we need to show a lot of empathy for the sales team. This came home to me when I was doing a “gig” with the sales team. Despite having the most important stakeholders at the target account fully engaged after multiple touch points, thorough discovery and even a proposal sent over, the deal still took a further 4 months to close! 3️⃣ Partners - you get in as much as you put in, and it takes time. After 2+ years building relationships with some vendor partners I’d started working with in EMEA, we are seeing some unexpected outcomes: partners putting in a good word organically, unveiling insights for us, and each campaign getting better each time. 4️⃣ Rituals/consistent communications - we are all busy. The right “rituals” can help cut through the noise and enable those around you on the shared mission. 5️⃣ Context setting - tied to the above, I am guilty of assuming everyone is as interested in a variety of things as I am. But my world is not their world. So providing context ensures I’m not diving in and making sweeping assumptions. I’m taking two weeks off and then I start at in a very exciting new role - stay tuned! All that remains to be done, is to say thanks to the many who've contributed to the journey (if I've missed anyone out, apologies - we'll stay in touch and I'll make it up to you, I promise!) Peter Shafer has joined as Managing Director/Research & Insights, based in Washington, D.C. Peter has two decades of experience in cutting-edge perceptual research, including the use of AI as part of new research methodologies. Previously, Peter was a partner at Brunswick Group and CEO of KRC Research, and he served in senior roles at Harris Interactive and The Gallup Organization. He is also a game clock operator for the National Football League (NFL).

Starting April with some mixed feelings. Let me begin with the sad news: today, I have to say goodbye to three of my absolute best reps—Daniela Ruiz, Áine Woods, and Miguel Rodríguez García. These folks have been incredible contributors to our Team, and I’m immensely grateful for their hard work, dedication and the way they’ve helped me elevate the Team to the next level 🚀 🚀 🚀 Ending March with a 120% attainment 🎯 (Top Team globally), consistently hitting quotas for the past 10 months and always overachieving would not have been possible without them and the rest of the Team. On a personal note, working with Daniela, Aine, and Miguel has been an absolute blast. I’ve learned a lot from each of them and I hope they’ve picked up a thing or two from me along the way. I will miss so much our 1:1s, our informal chats and our laughs at the office! But here’s the good news: while they may be leaving my Team, they’re not leaving Square. In fact, I’m thrilled to announce that all three of them have been promoted to Account Executives! There is no greater reward for me as a Manager than seeing members of my Team grow and succeed internally like this 👏 👏 👏 Gonzalo Saenz Brand and David Wild are lucky to have them moving forward and I know I leave them in very good hands 🤝 As for the Team, we do have some big shoes to fill, but that’s where you come in.
