I keep reading statements from affiliate networks saying that Google is favouring their own channels in Google Analytics / GA4 with the change from UA to GA4. 🌡 Knowing that the default attribution model is DDA ( Data-driven attribution) which analyses the impact of each marketing channel in the user journey, I must assume that the programs that the networks are referring to, are Coupon/ Loyalty heavy. 🤑 Obviously, the algorythm is designed to devalue these touchpoints before the transaction. The model must have calculated that the last touchpoints are not always necessary to close the sale. If the overall consensus is that Google is not able in defining the value of each of the marketing channels and touchpoints in the consumer journey, we must double check these findings with other consumer journey tracking technologies. 🔎 I understand where the uproar due to the change from the traditional last click model to DDA is coming from, however this development should be seen as a good thing for the Affiliate industry, where we need to reevaluate how we attribute sales to individual touchpoints. It all comes down to this in marketing budget allocation. We need to spend the money along the funnel. If we overspend in the last part of the funnel, we are not increasing demand, we are converting this demand. So spend your budget in a balanced way. And this implies looking beyond last click.
