Technical trouble shooters (technical support staff, programmers, application engineers) are smart people. And puzzles, mysteries are sometimes fun to them. Yes, they tend to like games. As a matter of fact, I have found them to be a bit competitive in a fun-loving way with these attributes.
Games are a fun way to elevate a team's competency and skill level with products, services and solutions specific to our products and services. From time to time, I have enjoyed pitting these folks against each other in games that resemble Jeopardy, Tic Tac Toe or Hollywood squares. Almost anything can be turned into a game.
Include a trophy, some prizes and they have a pretty darn good time. And, if they happen during a company annual summit or retreat, other departments enjoy watching. It has the added benefit of team building and building confidence between departments.
Warning: Not the easiest activities to put together and certainly not to be taken lightly.
Has your company every tried doing anything to make learning and team building fun?
