Mel Gibson's character, Benjamin Martin, exemplifies the bravery and determination of early American fighters who defended their liberties against tyranny. The movie powerfully illustrates how a well-armed populace can serve as a fortification against oppression and safeguard individual freedoms. It reminds us of the fundamental right enshrined in the Second Amendment: the right to keep and bear arms, crucial not just for personal defense but also as a check against potential abuses of power. In today's world, discussions around gun rights and the Second Amendment remain contentious and complex. Yet, "The Patriot" serves as a reminder of the historical context that shaped these constitutional freedoms. It prompts us to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany such rights and the enduring principles of self-defense and civic duty. In the interconnection of our individual freedoms lies the true essence of human liberation against the chains of a dictatorship. A Clarion Call Against Anti-Blackness At this point, I issue a plea to every human being of goodwill. This is a clarion call, a desperate cry for help. The pervasive hatred against the Black race is beyond words. From the USA to China, North Africa to Europe, and the Middle East, the vile attacks on people who look like me are deeply disturbing. We live each day in fear, constantly looking over our shoulders. What exactly is our crime? What have we done to deserve such relentless attacks and dehumanization? Do you have any answers or solutions on how to tackle these issues? #France, where is your conscience? You thrive on the exploitation of our resources day in and day out, yet you dare to dehumanize us? European Union where are your fundamental principles? Let’s not forget the systemic extermination of my people and the forced sterilizations happening against Black people in America and elsewhere. Police brutality against Black people around the world must stop. How do we make this end? Coming Soon Defeating Slavery by Nancy Spannaus Defeating Slavery takes on two of today’s prevalent assertions about slavery. First, I challenge the current popular insistence that the commitment to slavery was integral to American identity. I document the depth and pre-eminence of the American anti-slavery movement, starting in the 18th century and growing to a peak during the Revolutionary era. The fight against slavery by persons of all races was integral to our Revolution, and never died. Second, I counter the idea that the extraordinary economic progress of the United States was based on the wealth allegedly created by the slave economy. As the advocates of Hamilton’s economic system insisted, our prosperity depended upon freeing ourselves from economic colonialism. The advances in our economy occurred despite the continuation of chattel slavery, which was a source of backwardness and impoverishment.
