Equity in action! Two weeks ago Acumen attended the 2X Global Summit in Nairobi and hosted a side event on gender-smart TA with Value For Women Ltd. Later in the week, we hosted a Gender Inclusion Learning Day for 17 portfolio companies that are building inclusive businesses in East Africa. Both events were incredible opportunities to convene key stakeholders and examine and celebrate what’s working in gender lens investing. Our top takeaways from the week: 🔸 Gender-lens investors are innovating at the edge! We heard about new impact-linked finance for gender outcomes instruments, experimentation with monetizing gender impact on financial accounts, and pricing GBV risks into investment analysis. 🔸 At the business level, you don’t have to start big. Start with little things that can make a difference. Similarly, upfront investment is not always needed. Commitment and intentionality are more important. 🔸 Inclusion work is a marathon. There are quick wins, but other actions require a continuous process of improvement. Time, patience, and flexibility are needed from values-aligned investors and donors. 🔸 Meet women where they are, both in the physical (and digital) spaces, and focus on their strengths. Design solutions with women around these strengths. 🔸 Investors and donors can support SMEs through creative financing (ILF, TA facilities), by supporting internal capacity building at the company level (training, measurement, storytelling), and by convening companies to share learning. Huge thanks to our incredible thought partners at Value for Women and our donor Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada for supporting this work. Watch this space! Our forthcoming report with Value for Women highlights the gender-smart strategies that can gain traction and factors for success that funders, investors, and enterprises can consider when designing for gender equity outcomes.

🚀 Thrilled to announce the kick-off of one of our newest project, EURO_GENDEX an initiative we are part of with IDC Europe and Founderland GENDEX’s aims to create the Pan-European first Innovation Gender & Diversity Index, looking to enhance accessibility of women and diverse talent within the EU's innovation landscape 🌐 Here is why this initiative is crucial ➡️ According to Gender Diversity Index, only 30% of all leadership positions such as board, executive level and board committees, are covered by women ➡️ Out of 668 companies evaluated by Gender Diversity Index, only 50 companies have a female CEO and just 169 companies have at least one female as member of the C-suite 🚨 These figures underscore the pressing need to address the underrepresentation of women in decision-making roles, and highlights their limited ability to drive meaningful impact With this initiative we are laying the groundwork for positive and impactful change💥 Visit the project’s website for more info🔗 eurogendex.org Connect with us for more insights on how strategic changes in your organisation can fuel your success 🔗https://lnkd.in/dWxYmRsT European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) IoT Tribe #diversity #inclusion #investment #innovation

While we can name a thousand reasons to invest in women we thought we’d give you just a few. 💸 Research consistently shows that start-ups founded or co- founded by women out perform companies started by their male counterparts. And yet we still only receive a fraction of capital deployed 🏫 Us ladies are more likely to invest back into education, healthcare and social causes positively impacting entire communities. 💡 We bring unique perspectives, different decision making processes which can lead to more innovation. 🌍 Surprise!! Women are typically at the forefront of sustainability, and better practices. Turns out we really dig the planet. 💰 Drum roll please…women led companies generate higher return on investment. Turns out we are a pretty good bet You have the chance to be a part of the growth of All Better. Don’t sleep on us, we’re coming for the big dogs. Link in bio for all the details. Let’s go!!! 👊 Merav (Kaplan) Goldman

Amplifying this important post from our fabulous Principal, Jenny Holden. We all know it, and this is a critical addition to the evidence base. See below for links to blog and final report.
💡 It's been really invigorating to meet with so many funders, DFIs, investors, funds, and companies who've joined our series of webinars co-hosted with British International Investment, 2X Global, and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office over the past month. We are so encouraged by how much interest and engagement there has been in the evaluation's main findings and recommendations for how investments in gender-diverse ownership and leadership can support greater development outcomes for women. As we wrap up this impactful partnership with BII, we look forward to continue to collaborate with like-minded partners in the 2X ecosystem to further the evidence base on what works in gender lens investing. In case you missed it, check out our blog (https://lnkd.in/giWgi9iP) sharing key insights as well as the final report (https://lnkd.in/gxX6S8-v) Katrina Kwan, Clément Bisserbe, Barbara Kong, Saira Meyler, Kate Griffith, Toby Bateman, Jessica Espinoza, Sana Kapadia, Katie Turner
