Minting pictures as NFTs straight from your phone's camera is a game changer. And let me tell you why. Phantom has launched Camera Mint, a feature in its mobile wallet that allows you to convert photos & videos directly into NFTs. Think about how difficult it is to prove that a piece of content is yours. By taking an image IRL & uploading it onchain, you can instantly share it online and prove that it is yours. There are 3 use cases that come to mind. 1️⃣ Imagine something is happening live. You see a robbery, an explosion or whatever. You take a picture and put it on Twitter. People right click and save it and you have no idea who took the photo first. If you mint it, you get a verification that you were the original source. This could also be huge for journalists. 2️⃣ Think about celebrities, big brands, people who want verified truth when they post online. They want people to be able to tell the truth from fake. They are constantly fighting that. Not long ago, someone used AI to create an ad for a dental plan featuring Tom Hanks, and wasted his time explaining that he had nothing to do with it. This is exactly the problem that onchain verification can solve. 3️⃣ And let's not forget loyalty programs. If you put an image on a chain, it can interact with smart contracts. Think about Starbucks Odyssey. You could have a contest to take a picture with your drink at Starbucks. Right now that happens offchain. But they could add this feature in their app that would verify the source and automatically enter you into the competition. You could also get the prize right in your wallet. This could change a lot in terms of loyalty contests and interaction with brands. 🤔 Right now, Camera Mint charges about $1 per upload. That's quite a lot and not sustainable if you want the masses to use this feature. But I believe the fee will be reduced in the future. Interesting article! Still actual or has the situation changed over the last months? Elon Musk’s plans do not include Web3 platforms yet nor does Kanye West’s till now. OnlyFans has not released any news about moving towards Web3 and is still working with Stripe. The main problem with crypto is still the small community. Less the 3% of the population has a crypto wallet and only approximately 1% of people with a wallet is using crypto for day-to-day payment. The rest holds it as an asset. Majority of new wallets are in countries with very little average income which is not really the target audience for this industry. If this is changing massively we have no doubts this could be a great solution. But it will probably take many years until enough people will use crypto for payment and considering it as a competitive alternative to credit cards. Also the anonymity could be a real challenge in terms of safety and for KYC. I also don’t see real technical advantage yet in Web3 except creating adult content NFTs, but I am afraid for the creators it’s rather a dis-advantage if you don’t want to sell the IP forever and proof it in the block chain🤷🏼♀️ many of the entertainers don’t plan to stay in the industry forever but starting a new life after their career in the adult industry. The internet meanwhile at least forgets sometimes, but the block chain will never forget. As a web3 supporter I do believe there are much better ways to use it and it’s not a match made in heaven for the adult entertainment industry.
