A ship isn’t built in a day. This, we know very well. The delivery of the #QueenAnne serves as a powerful reminder that years of both mental and physical labor are dedicated to the building of a ship. To bring to life a vessel from design to delivery is an achievement, not for the faint of heart. It takes passion and resilience. Shipbuilding is not only our trade, but our art; a canvas for innovators and dreamers alike. It is here that we marry the lessons of our predecessors with our innate drive for the future, to produce shipbuilding masterpieces. To you Queen Anne, fair winds and following seas. #Fincantieri #FutureOnBoard #Shipbuilding #Innovation #Cruise Cunard

The news is three, new €63.4mn assignments to #SomecNavale by three customers, involving seven new-build #cruise liners, starting in 3rdQ/24 and continuing to 2029. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.-owned Regent Seven Seas Cruises assigned #SomecGroup specialists in naval architecture and marine glazing two newbuild #projects. Another #NorwegianCruiseLineHolding-owned operator, Oceania Cruises assigned Somec Navale project works involving four new cruise liners, two of which are optional. A leading #German shipyard assigned new works to Somec involving a #newbuild, The Walt Disney Company-owned Disney Cruise Line's vessel. The naval mechanic and passenger ship building business hinges on a 3-way supply model, with yards and cruise #operators assigning works to many specialist suppliers. Somec Navale built its name on #marineglazing and successfully evolved into naval architecture, with innovative proprietary design solutions. These seven newbuilds will all adopt a newly-designed, #suite 15m²-#balcony, along with #glass and #metal elements equipping Guests’ public and private areas. #qualitàcostruttivaitaliana #Horizons #navalarchitecture

Sjoerd van Herk, senior naval architect at Heesen, and Jos Verbruggen, Heesen’s manager of shipbuilding and engineering, took to the stage in Amsterdam in November to talk audiences through the innovative Hull Monitoring System aboard Heesen’s 80-metre project. The event took place at Metstrade, the largest leisure marine industry event on the maritime calendar, attended by key leaders in the yachting industry. “The premise of the build challenge was how to make the yacht strong enough considering its significant 80-metre length paired with the shallow depth of the hull and the requested high top speed,” says Verbruggen. “We typically use tank testing to check if the hull shape delivers optimum efficiency. In this case, we also used it to monitor the hull’s ‘bending movements’ in several locations.” The rigorous tank testing gave Heesen’s in-house experts a good initial indication if the shipyard’s existing hulls were good enough for a large aluminium yacht travelling at high speeds, as well as that Class bending rules were in line with measured values. Once built, the 80-metre was equipped with an innovative Hull Monitoring System developed in-house by Heesen that is fixed in various locations on the boat to measure acceleration and tension in the structure using strain gauges. That, in turn, is connected to a smart computer system that measures the forces on the yacht when at sea. The Hull Monitoring System provides the foresight to finetune a yacht’s course at sea, forecasting how it will respond to high stresses in certain sea conditions. So far, it has been used to measure forces on the 80-metre during sea trials, which measured only minor stresses as expected due to the smooth sailing conditions. The results from tougher sea conditions with heavier waves are yet to be received, but expectations run high. #heesen #engineering #backbone #superyachtbuilding #navalarchitecture #superyachts #madeinoss

Skimming across the water with elegance and ease, wing-in-ground effect craft seem to offer a faster and more cost-effective alternative to conventional maritime vessels. ST Engineering is the latest company to try and commercialize them, and might have succeeded. It recently announced that Turkey’s Eurasia Mobility Solutions has signed a letter of intent for 10 of its Airfish vehicles, plus options for an additional 10 units. For takeoff and landing, the Airfish 8 can operate up to sea state 3 and in wind speeds of up to 15 knots. It carries a payload of up to 2,200 pounds and a cruising range of 300 nm. The maximum takeoff weight is 12,000 pounds.

WIGE wing in ground effect or sometimes call as WISE wing in surface effect...she's flying "hover" thrust, hovering make the bottom "undercarriage" have no touch with the water surface directly, so would be reduced drag friction, Next idea, how to reduce wing span size for better parking & mooring? Swing wing concept?

Tandem Airfoil Flairboats as efficient wing-in-ground-effect crafts Type A. Longlife experience in constructing, testing and consulting of this highspeed crafts by inventor and engineer Guenther Joerg.
This is the last Airfish by Prof. Lippisch. This W.I.G. Craft Type B able to fly higher in the air than W.I.G Type A. Nice to see with a pleasant design the technocal solution is not really adapted to the needs of the water surface. Ground effect means the specialities of a moisture saturated air near the watersurface which lead to a better loadcapacity against higher air layers. Groundeffect happens somewhere in between a flying height of 5% to 15% of chord length. Leaving this defined level means that the W.I.G is out of ground-effect and has similar data like any waterplane. Due to shape and dimension Airfish is quite sensitive against choppy waters at starting and landing mode.

February...Its PROLIM's Marine Month! While every industry is talking about #digitaltwin of their #products #performance #production then why not Digital twin of Marine? Yes, we have scheduled 4 brainstorming sessions in this month focusing on creating the Digital twin of #marineindustry starting from #concept to #predictivemaintenance while they are sailing on the water. The 1st session, which is coming up on Jan 31, 2024 and is focused on: 1st half: How #Marinesystem design through #modelbasedsystem engineering helps you to arrive at the right configuration of the systems & subsystems of your #vessel #ship #speedboat #yachts design. 2nd half: How will you convert these specifications into features and functionalities of the design before materialising it.
