July marks the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and many public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. As we celebrate 34 years of the ADA, we encourage you to share your stories of how the ADA has impacted your life using #ThanksToTheADA! #ADA #ADA34 #Disability
A law that is 34 years old, and fails so many. We need more forward progress. Doctors/ Patients are fighting a uphill battle with insurance companies and educators. We need healthcare and education reform to fight against the discrimination that occurs across the systems.
I can't believe it has been 30 years already! I remember when the late Ronald Reagan sign this into law! 🎉
Much like the DDA95 and Equality Act 2010 in the UK it's great to see the 'what should happen' listed and campaigned for. In my case I am just saddened that we can celebrate such anniversaries as this because, in the case of ADA, it's been 34 years since the need for change was identified and that need is still there today...
Thanks for your thoughts about the ADA which will be 34 years old without this law, we would not be having access to close captioning of our television programs and the Relay in which millions of deaf make greater use of access towards being able to talk with hearing people. And finally, having access to sign language interpreters available to translate between deaf and hearing people. For the physically disabled, they are able to avail themselves of all improvements made on sidewalks and access points in buildings in easing their wheelchairs inside buildings without any problems. We hope the ADA will last forever!
If only the law was upheld and victims were supported! Do you really want me to share my story? How about doing better?
So grateful we have these laws!
The ADA needs requirements for the caregivers as well. We bear the consequences of legislation that affects our lives, but offers no protections for our well being to ensure that we continue to be able to care for disabled citizens. This is particularly true for family caregivers. How can the needs of family caregivers be addressed through legislation?
Problem is that people don't grasp that the ADA Law deals with "Reasonable" Accommodation not Accommodation at all Cost no matter the Cost.

3moBravo! I'm old enough to see that even though we need more progress, there's been a lot of improvements over the years. Thank you to all the dreamers and fighters who made things better!
