#BetterOffDead raises a crucial, unheard perspective in assisted dying. Personally, I want the choice but recognise access and privilege disparities. This debate lacks intersectional perspectives and has always been centered in the views of white disabled and non-disabled people. As a disabled person from the global majority, here are some of my thoughts: 👉🏾 Cultural and Religious Beliefs: Many global majority communities have strong cultural and religious beliefs that may not support assisted dying. This can create a conflict between personal wishes and respecting traditions. 👉🏾 Medical Mistrust: Historical and ongoing experiences of discrimination in healthcare can lead to medical mistrust within some global majority communities. This might make them hesitant to discuss end-of-life options with medical professionals. 👉🏾 Communication Barriers: Language barriers or cultural differences in communication styles can lead to misunderstandings about assisted dying and palliative care options. 👉🏾 Importance of Family: Decisions about end-of-life care are often made communally within families in some global majority communities, making individual choices a more complex issue. These factors, I believe, could make it difficult for some in global majority communities to access information or have open conversations about assisted dying, even if they're interested. #AssistedDying #Intersectionality

Are disabled people better off dead? Liz Carr is debating why she believes we shouldn’t legalise assisted dying in the UK. As a long-term campaigner against that change, Liz fears disabled lives will be put at risk if the law is altered. I have really mixed feelings about this, so I'm looking forward to watching it later at 9 p.m. on BBC One. https://lnkd.in/g9pKRYnd #AssistedDying #Disability
