Nursing has become more professionalized, respected, and regulated since this poster's heyday. But, I would argue, as time has lifted standards of nursing care, unsafe staffing and burnout have dragged them back. Which brings us to virtual nursing. How does it work, and will it ease the staffing burden on healthcare facilities? According to ChristianaCare, virtual nurses - situated in a command center and contactable via a screen in patients' rooms - improve patient experience, have caught potential errors and contribute to decreased length of stay and readmission rates. They also relieve the burden on bedside nurses, act as coaches for new nurses and provide support to virtual and bedside colleagues. This Friday I'm inspecting how they expanded it to 41% of beds, and exploring how this will impact nurse recruitment needs and capacity: join the webinar on Friday, 2 pm Eastern. https://lnkd.in/eBTnFnFJ

A 2023 report provided some increasingly concerning numbers surrounding the financial toll that the nursing shortage has had on healthcare institutions. Some of the highlights include: • The cost of RN turnover now averages more than $52,000 per nurse, with some costing upwards of $64,500. • RN vacancy rates are exceeding 15% in more than half of hospitals. • Each percent change in RN turnover can cost hospitals $380,600 per year. However, the report also noted a potential savings of $3,140,000 for hospitals reducing reliance on travel RNs. This underlines the importance of strategic staffing solutions such as virtual nursing. Virtual nursing not only helps extend the reach of the existing workforce but also plays a crucial role in improving patient care and reducing the workload on on-site nurses, thereby contributing to better retention rates. To learn more about virtual nursing or do a deeper dive into the numbers, check out the links in the comments.

What is Acuity-Based Nursing? Acuity-based nursing matches nurses to patients based on care needs complexity. Instead of fixed patient nurse ratios, this method allows flexible rostering Benefits: Improved Patient Care: Acuity-based staffing matches nurse skills with patient needs to improve patient outcomes. Balanced Workload: It helps distribute the workload more evenly among nursing staff, preventing burnout and promoting job satisfaction. Enhanced Efficiency: Nurses can enhance patient care by focusing on delivering the best possible care within their competency levels. Better Resource Allocation: Hospital resources are used more effectively, as staffing levels can be adjusted based on real-time patient acuity data. Drawbacks: Complex Implementation: Establishing an acuity-based system involves intensive data collection and analysis. Potential for Discrepancies: Subjective assessments of patient acuity can lead to inconsistencies in staffing decisions. Resistance to Change: Staff may resist switching to a new system. Ongoing Monitoring: Continuous monitoring and adjustment are needed to maintain accuracy, adding to the administrative burden. While acuity-based nursing offers significant benefits in enhancing patient care and reducing nurse burnout, it also presents challenges that must be carefully managed. #nurses #acuitybasedtraining #healthcare

Virtual nursing is gaining popularity in hospitals, leveraging technology to supplement bedside care. These real nurses operate remotely, handling tasks like admissions and patient education via a "Zoom-like" call on the patient's TV. This approach, propelled by the pandemic and nursing shortages, aims to reduce burnout among physical nurses and improve patient care. \#iworkforComcast \#Healthcare \#VirtualNursing \#PatientCare https://lnkd.in/gVCtGwGi
