I can’t help but chuckle at a recurring theme: At Community Health Impact Coalition, we often get asked to review CHW policies and guidance. 🤦♂️ Only to find that they repeatedly cite 'evidence' that says the exact opposite of what the authors intend! Here are three classic examples: #ProCHWs #ReadTheFinePrint 😂

Healthy Habits: Combating Isolation, Strengthening Communities Social isolation significantly affects seniors’ health and well-being. That’s why the Healthy Habits program prioritizes social engagement—creating a space where seniors can connect, stay active, and feel supported. Just last month, a participant shared how Healthy Habits helped him rebuild his confidence and reconnect with his community. This program is more than fitness—it’s about transforming lives. With the support of partners like UPMC Health Plan and Highmark, we can expand these opportunities and enhance community health for even more seniors. Interested in advancing social health initiatives? Let’s collaborate to support the well-being of seniors. #SeniorHealth #SocialConnection #CommunityWellness #UPMC #Highmark

With so many technological and payor changes looming in healthcare, it feels more important than ever to band together as an #occupationaltherapy profession. But, as a former Facebook group moderator, when I think about gathering together online, I can’t help but think about: 😡 Rage, 😤 infighting, 🤬 drama, and 🧌 trolls. And, when I decided to create a private OT community 6 years ago, that is exactly what I prepared for. I spent so many angst-ridden hours researching and building policies — and exploring best practices for moderating conflict. But, guess what? Six years and thousands upon thousands of interactions later, I’ve seen literally ZERO unfruitful conflict. The platform we are built on (Discourse) is designed for “civilized communities,” and that’s exactly what it has delivered for us. Honestly, it’s opened my eyes to how much the structure of an online community matters.❤️ All of this is to say: as health professionals let’s band together — but let’s be intentional in how we do it.

Every outbreak response starts with the community. Before stepping in with "support," remember that the community has likely faced similar challenges before. Approach with humility—actively listen, learn, and collaborate with them to craft a more effective response. Trust and communication are built on language and respect. Engaging local leaders and familiar faces within the affected community ensures culturally relevant interventions. Community health workers, in particular, are transformative agents, bridging gaps and driving sustainable solutions during outbreaks. A community-centered approach isn’t just effective—it’s essential. #Infectionprevention #OutbreakResponse #CommunityHealthWorkers #Communication #Implementation
