Which do you think is best for connecting: in-person networking or digital marketing? Yesterday I was at another excellent Island Networking meet up, here in sunny Sheffield. It’s been a while since I’ve been networking so it was great to see people again and find out what they’re all up to. There was a great turn-out and it was observed that the stay-away behaviour we learnt from the pandemic is lifting and people are now happy to be back together. As I begin my digital marketing journey, being with people got me thinking about how, in today's fast-paced, interconnected world, the blend of in-person networking and digital marketing can have real pay-offs. We can’t neglect one for the other because both strategies offer unique benefits that, when combined, can propel our professional and business growth forward. Here’s my thoughts: In-Person Networking gives us: Authentic Connections - nothing beats face-to-face interactions for building genuine relationships and trust. Immediate Feedback - having real-time conversations allows for instant feedback and dynamic discussions that encourages your mind to be challenged and therefore creative. Personal Branding - your presence, personality and smiles shine through more effectively in person, leaving a lasting impression. Opportunity Discovery - serendipitous encounters at events often lead to unexpected opportunities and collaborations. This has happened to me plenty of times! Digital Marketing gives us: Wider Reach - allowing us to extend our message to a far wider audience, overcoming geographical barriers. Cost-Effective - digital channels often offer more budget-friendly options compared to traditional advertising. Data-Driven Insights - this is a biggy! Leveraging analytics to fine-tune your strategies and maximise our ROI is something that we’ve never been able to do in the depth that digital marketing offers. 24/7 Engagement - we can connect with our audience anytime, anywhere, enhancing accessibility and convenience for all. You can see that both compliment each other. But integrating these two approaches together ensures a holistic strategy by: Leveraging Events - we can use digital marketing to promote and follow up on in-person events.
