Disney is significantly expanding its cruise business with the christening of its newest ship, the Disney Treasure, which will begin its maiden voyage to the Caribbean next month. This marks the sixth ship in Disney's fleet, which is set to double by 2031. Two new ships, the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, will debut in 2025, followed by four additional vessels and a partnership with Oriental Land Company to bring Disney cruises to Japan. This expansion is fueled by strong demand, as the company's experiences division reported record revenue and profit for fiscal year 2024. Disney Cruise Line, which had not launched a new ship for a decade before the debut of the Disney Wish in 2022, is now entering a period of rapid growth. According to Thomas Mazloum, President of Disney's new experiences portfolio, the brand remains premium, with high occupancy and a thriving business.
The Disney fleet is expanding. Next month, the Disney Treasure cruise ship will make its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the Caribbean, officially becoming the sixth ship in the company’s lineup. As the Treasure sets sail, Disney, too, is embarking on its own journey. The company, which hadn’t launched a new ship in a decade prior to the Disney Wish’s debut in mid-2022, is entering an era of rapid expansion. Disney’s fleet will double by 2031, with two ships arriving in 2025 — the Disney Destiny and the Disney Adventure — followed by four additional Disney-branded vessels and a partnership with Oriental Land Company to bring Disney’s cruise vacations to Japan. “Disney Cruise Line is going through an unprecedented period of growth,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney’s new experiences portfolio and Disney signature experiences. “The demand that we’re seeing right now for Disney Cruise Line is very strong. We’re a premium brand, occupancy is high, and frankly, the business is doing really, really well.”

Disney orders four new ships Disney Cruise Line just dropped another big announcement. DCL is ordering four more ships, adding to the new ships currently under construction. It revealed the news at the weekend D23 event, which will more than double the fleet size within seven years. The next to join the current five-ship fleet is Disney Treasure in December, which has just floated out. Two more ships – Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny will launch next year. These latest ships will be delivered from 2027 to 2031. “The demand on our existing cruise fleet is very, very high, so we know there’s a big opportunity here to invest aggressively,” said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. “We know that when guests get on one of our ships, 40-50% of them are saying the only reason I’m cruising today is because Disney is here, so we’ve essentially created this space.” The new order will give Disney Cruise Line a fleet of 13 ships. Next year, the line expands to Southeast Asia with the Disney Adventure homeporting in Singapore. DCL also inked a partnership with its Tokyo Disneyland operator Oriental Land Co to expand its theme park operations to cruises for the Japan market.

Our big business wish of 2025: The Walt Disney Company acquires Spirit Airlines, launches “Disney Air.” Why? Two-thirds of Disney’s profits in the last 2 years were in hospitality: Disney parks and Disney Cruises. By acquiring FL-based Spirit out of bankruptcy, it could offer a complete family hospitality package. Think about it… • Airport hubs wherever Disney has parks, Disney-themed airport gates, and family-friendly onboard experiences. • Delta made $7B from its Amex partnership in 2023. A Disney Air travel card could do the same, driving loyalty and revenue. Would you fly Disney Air?

Disney has announced an exciting new addition to their cruise line—the Disney Destiny, set to sail from Port Everglades starting in late 2025. With a unique focus on hero and villain-themed experiences, this cruise promises to immerse guests in the worlds of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel like never before. Imagine enjoying a dining adventure at the “Lion King” venue, where live storytellers bring the magic of Africa to life, or indulging in sweet creations at the "Incredibles" confectionery, complete with handmade gelato and specialty treats. It’s not just about relaxation at sea; it’s about creating memorable experiences that resonate with both young and old. Cruisers like Sarah and Tom, who seek family-oriented fun, will certainly appreciate themed dining options and the enchanting atmosphere that Disney is known for. What experiences are they most excited about? With the growing trend in themed cruises, Disney’s approach highlights a significant shift in how families choose vacation experiences. Did you know that themed cruises can increase passenger engagement by up to 30%? That’s worth considering for travel advisors looking for unique offerings to present to clients. What do you think?
