Today’s #MayorsDeskMonday feature is City of Birmingham, Alabama, Mayor Randall Woodfin (City of Birmingham Mayor's Office ), the city’s youngest leader in 120 years. In spring 2022, Mayor Woodfin spoke with Anthony Flint about setting up a unified command center for Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the American Rescue Plan Act funds, the city’s participation in a guaranteed-income pilot program for single mothers, and his vision for neighborhood revitalization. “We have to pave more streets,” he said. “We have to have adequate playground equipment. We have to partner with our power company to get more LED lights in that neighborhood, so people feel safe. We have to invest in healthy food options so our citizens can have a better quality of life. Clarios, leading the way in advanced battery solutions, announced expanding operations in Oconee County. According to the SC Dept. of Commerce, this $16 million investment will create 12 new jobs with the 9,000-square-foot #expansion. The Oconee facility produces component parts for Absorbent Glass Mat #batteries used in new #automotivetechnology - including hybrid and #EV. Yet another example of #manufacturing growth in the south.

In recent years, voters have sent a clear message that they expect our elected leaders to return to the basics and restore Portland’s greatest asset: livability. 1moHow come part of the potential solution is not alternatives to incarceration for non-violent crimes? Please don't feed the for-profit prison monster and bid this out to CoreCivic or similar entities. Adams county should own and manage their own facilities, not be locked into multi-year contracts with companies that thrive off of criminalizing even minor offenses and keeping people caged for as long as possible.
