Balyasny on $200m recruitment drive Dimitry Balyasny’s multi-strategy hedge fund firm Balyasny Asset Management L.P., is investing over $200m to revamp its equities trading division with a series of high-profile hires from rival firms, according to a report by Bloomberg The firm is pulling top talent from competitors such as Point72, Citadel and Millennium Management. Notably, Peter Goodwin from Point72 and Alberto Mann from Citadel are among the new recruits. Both have secured compensation packages exceeding $50m, according to sources familiar with the arrangements. Additional hires include David Corwin and Jake Koury, former money managers at Citadel and Dan Avery, a former equity arbitrage trader at Millennium Management. He and his team correctly anticipated the collapse in realestate prices and identified vulnerable banks, which shares they sold short. The credit opportunities fund achieved a 600% (in that ballpark) return in 2008. Paulson & Co. assets shot up to close to 40 billion US$, he personally earned billions !
