A facility like this can manage waste of 4000-6000 houses (depending on income profile), if every community has these, we would not need large landfills. Segregation levels will improve because when your waste is managed in your backyard, people take more ownership as they bear the consequences of mixed waste and not disadvantaged communities living near the landfill. Those living in NCR, must visit this facility and experience the contrast between a decentralised facility and a landfill. Happy to announce the launch of the India Alliance for Clean Construction (IACC) at #ConnectKaro 2024! The Alliance will articulate sectoral shifts towards reduced air pollution impacts from construction-linked activities. It will be steered by a growing pool of partners such as BMTPC, ASSOCHAM GEM, CREDAI MCHI, CREDAI Surat, Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited, and of course, us folks at WRI India. Apart from scaling our ongoing efforts towards encouraging clean construction practices through the Accelerator for Clean Air Actions (ACAAS), the Alliance also complements our track record of enabling collaborations for industry-wide sustainable transitions, such as the Global Housing Technology Challenge - India. Pleased to present the Interim Report of the 'Task Force on Sustainable Just Transition Jharkhand' to Smt. Vandana Dadel, Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Environment & Climate Change (GoJ) along with the CEO of Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED), Ramapati Kumar. Since inception of Task Force in November 2022, our dedicated team and Technical partner Centre for Environment and Energy Development have diligently pursued a comprehensive approach to address pressing challenges faced by our communities and environment. This report delves beyond mere data compilation; it's a deep dive into immediate actions needed to steer towards a sustainable future. It encapsulates key steps and initiatives, highlighting our unwavering dedication to driving meaningful change. Some of the key points from Interim report can be summarised as follows: ✅Building consensus, sensitising departments, creating framework for Just transition and economic diversification roadmap. ✅Immediate need for repurposing for alternative livelihood opportunities through skilling, reskilling and upskilling. ✅Identification of various pilots to initiate the transition process on the ground. ✅30 Plus convening and workshops in last one year have helped us for better understanding on Just transition. ✅Creating a data base which is essential for planning. Moreover, we've developed a framework and initiated a process for bottom-up planning for people-centric transition. We believe that catalysing the sustainable transition in the state requires a holistic approach and collaborative efforts, thus we are preparing a roadmap that will promote innovation and enable Jharkhand to take a giant leap towards sustainability and inclusivity-based development. As we navigate the complexities of our transition towards sustainability, our resolve remains steadfast. Together, with the collective efforts from government, stakeholders, Industries and business sector, investors, techno-solution providers, academia, civil society and citizens, we’re poised to usher in a new era of sustainable development and prosperity for the people of Jharkhand.
