Making the world a better place, one "Did you know?" at a time. Passionate about science communication, ecology, food systems, & livable communities. (B.Sc. Environmental Science)
Public health, public safety & infrastructure is a backbone of society. Listen to scientists. Trust scientists. Learn more about how science interacts with uncertainty in very structured ways to inform decisions that keep us safe. Currently reading The Poison Squad, about the history of US Food Safety research & the struggles passing legislation It's interesting to see how the conversations around "pure food" were going on over 125yrs ago, and how difficult it was to get tiny wins (e.g. no formaldehyde in milk!)
If you brushed your teeth this morning and didn’t get sick, you’re benefiting from public health infrastructure. Keep this in mind as you move through your day - driving around on paved roads in a car that has been crash tested, eating food that isn’t expired or contaminated with pathogens, meeting your friend at a coffee shop that isn’t a cloud of cancer-causing, asthma irritating tobacco smoke. That is public health. It’s not flashy, fancy, or super high-tech. In fact, if it’s working well, it’s barely noticeable. But it keeps you and your loved ones alive and thriving without so much as a thought. Happy National Public Health Week! Be sure to shoutout all of the heroes of public health in your life this week!

Celebrating Freedom and Heart Health on the 4th of July! 🇺🇸 🔑 Freedom and Independence: On this historic day, we commemorate the Continental Congress’s approval of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Our Founding Fathers recognized that freedom is not just a political concept; it’s a fundamental human right. As we revel in fireworks and festivities, let’s also honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who safeguard our liberty. 🗽 🏥 Healthcare and Prevention: Health is the bedrock of freedom. Without good health, true independence remains elusive. As healthcare professionals, we play a vital role in promoting preventive care. Let’s encourage our patients to prioritize regular check-ups, screenings, and heart-healthy habits. Prevention isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the cornerstone of a thriving life. 💙 🫀 Heart Health Matters: Our hearts beat to the rhythm of life. They symbolize resilience, courage, and love. But heart disease remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide. As we wave our flags, let’s also raise awareness about cardiovascular health. Encourage exercise, balanced diets, stress management, and early intervention. Let’s ensure that every heartbeat echoes freedom and vitality. 💓 #IndependenceDay #Healthcare #HeartHealth #Prevention #LiveFree #CelebrateLife

We know that where we live – where we eat, sleep, work, play, learn and pray – can have a huge effect on our health. But what makes a neighborhood healthy? Having safe places to live, without hazards or pollution. Having safe ways for everyone to be active, like sidewalks, and safe places to bike. Having easy access to fresh, affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate food. When our neighborhoods are healthy, we have the building blocks for healthy lives. As a Public Health Professional, I am passionate about raising awareness for health campaigns and initiatives. 💪🏼😷 The recent global health crisis has shown us the importance of proactive measures in preventing the spread of diseases and protecting our communities. By advocating for public health awareness campaigns, we can educate people about the importance of vaccination, hygiene practices, and staying informed about potential health risks. I believe that by coming together and spreading awareness, we can empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Whether it's promoting mental health awareness, healthy lifestyle choices, or disease prevention strategies, public health campaigns play a crucial role in creating a healthier and safer society for all. Let's join forces to make a positive impact on public health and ensure a brighter, healthier future for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference! 🌟🌍 #PublicHealthAwareness #HealthCampaigns #StayInformed
