Kicking fast underwater is pretty much mandatory if swimmers want to compete successfully.
If swimmers want to execute in races, they have to train it.
HARD.
Fast underwater kicking is a distinct skill compared to the other strokes.
If swimmers want to go fast, they’re going to have to create a lot of propulsion.
Resistance is a great way to make that happen.
Swimmers have to kick hard to overcome the resistance, and resistance requires swimmers to kick WELL if they actually want to move forward.
In this set, we start off with a drill that encourages swimmers to kick with an effective range of motion.
Then we build on that skill, eventually transitioning to some fast swimming with great walls.
By helping swimmers connect the dots, we can help them understand how to kick better and then how to kick better while they swim.
By practicing it at speed over and over again, it’s a lot more likely that it’s a skill that will show up in races.
And that’s what it’s all about.
