#Sparseattention mechanisms work on the principle of selectively focusing on a #subset of #inputs rather than processing all #inputdata simultaneously, as #denseattention mechanisms do. In traditional dense attention, every #inputtoken attends to every other #token, which can be computationally expensive, especially for large #datasets. Sparse attention reduces this burden by allowing the #model to focus only on the most relevant parts of the #data, significantly cutting down #computational #costs while still capturing essential #information. The efficiency of sparse attention comes from its ability to limit the number of tokens (or elements) it attends to, focusing on the most important ones. Instead of attending to every token in a #sequence, sparse attention mechanisms select only a #subset, often focusing on nearby or highly relevant tokens. #Structured #sparsity is another key aspect, where #predefined #patterns guide which tokens to focus on. For example, the model may attend to nearby tokens in a sequence for #localcontext while occasionally selecting distant tokens for #globalcontext. This structure enables the model to #scale more efficiently for #longinputs while maintaining important #contextual information. Running a sparse attention mechanism on #Swift for a #mobileapp would significantly improve the app’s #performance and #efficiency, particularly for tasks requiring #realtimeprocessing of large data inputs, such as #naturallanguageprocessing or #imageanalysis. By leveraging sparse attention, the mobile app could handle complex computations without overloading the #device’s resources, making it possible to run advanced #AImodels directly on the phone rather than relying on #cloud-based systems. This would lead to faster response times since the app wouldn’t need to #senddata to a central #server for processing. Instead, it would process the most critical parts of the input locally, using the device’s #hardware, such as the #Mseries chips in #Apple devices, which are optimised for #AItasks. This #localprocessing capability would also enhance #privacy and #security, as #sensitivedata remains on the device rather than being #transmitted to #externalservers.

There's a steadily growing market segment, in addition to those of Google and Apple, that says: "We don't want that #BigTech anymore, we don't want that dumb-evil surveillance, bloat and ad ware, we don't want those middlemen. We don't want to be subject to laws in a foreign country that do us no good." Here there is really no genuine competition. This segment gets to buy products and solutions that the two other segments would never even be able to offer; their entire business models is structurally built on commercially predatory algorithms, trickery and data abuse. What does happen, however, is that this segment eats away at the two hyper-centralizing blackbox segments. What happens is that more and more Google and Apple customers are migrating to open-source, decentralized, privacy-centered products and solutions. Holochain's CEO Mary Camacho certainly gets the points across! Data is now stored between the people who are actually chatting, and not some server. "It's profound," she says. It truly is! And what's more. Any stock Android, too, can join in! And soon enough any mobile or computer OS. The latest horrible review on the Rabbit R1 (with some juicy tech detail). From the start, it wasn't quite clear why one would need a gadget to do what one can already do with the gadget one already owns - the smartphone. But beyond a weak product premise, it also turned out that the Rabbit's functionality is quite limited, the software is glitchy, and battery life is bad. Not to mention the $199 price tag. Don't get me wrong - there is merit to the idea of a device that rids you of carrying a stupid little electronics box in your hand all day, as does @Humane's AI Pin. (Which also suffers teething pains for sure, with a price tag that does not match the device's capabilities.) Finally, after 5 long years of R&D, Holochain is being released to the world! Imagine your own data, stored on your own devices (or those of friends, family and coworkers of *your* choice), instead of some faceless corporation! Your own identity and agency, authorized using your own cryptographic keys and always in your own control — meaning never asking to “log in” to random insecure applications run by unknown companies or hostile governments! Now, perhaps most interestingly — we get to see who disapproves!

Google is launching a new AI-powered security feature for Android phones that will prevent illegal access by locking devices. The "the_ft detection lock" uses the phone's accelerometer and gyroscope data to recognize the_ft-related motions and automatically locks the phone when suspicious activity is detected. Initially available to test users in Brazil, this capability will soon be available to all Android 10 devices via Google Play Services. Mozilla has published an interesting list of products they reviewed for privacy and security. Unsurprisingly, many failed even basic privacy controls including automobiles, mobile apps and products, from video doorbells to Bluetooth trackers. Some highlights: Automobiles – Cars topped the list and it’s surprising how much information is collected, your genetic information, your “sex life”, how fast you drive, where you drive, and what songs you play in your car. https://lnkd.in/gK6_jFpe Medical Apps - Twenty-three of the apps Mozilla reviewed earned the “Privacy Not Included” warning label. https://lnkd.in/gzK3_3gp Bose – Expands their data collection to even include head movements from your headphones. https://lnkd.in/gGxHNgib Google Nest - Google can collect data from publicly available sources to train AI, and it's not clear as to what exactly counts as “publicly available.” Tile – Aggregates the data collected from third parties and combine it with what they already know to build a more robust data set about you. The moral of the story is buyer beware. If you’re considering buying any connected product, read the terms of service and do you research before purchase.
