During the Olympics, the Seine's conditions, described by some journalists as "uncooperative," posed a significant challenge to the organizers. Heavy rains frequently overwhelm wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), resulting in the discharge of raw sewage into streams and rivers. While this is indeed a serious and unacceptable problem, real-time monitoring of WWTP operations allows plant operators to implement various mitigation strategies. Additionally, they can inform downstream drinking water producers about the specifics of the pollution event, enabling these plants to take measures to prevent contamination. Automated and precise monitoring of WWTP effluent enhances both environmental safety and operational efficiency.
