Big congratulations to Ghana's Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection - Ghana, and Social Protection for launching the Roadmap for Strengthening the Gender and Shock-responsiveness of Social Protection Programs in Ghana, and to my UNICEF colleagues Pauliina Sarvilahti and Christiana Gbedemah for their dedicated efforts! 🎉👏
It has been an immense honor to contribute to this project and is yet another great example of the importance of practice-oriented research. A Shout-out also to Lauren Whitehead and Maja Gavrilovic for their critical inputs and to Lily Breimann for her excellent research assistance.
Key highlights
* The roadmap puts UNICEF Innocenti’s GRASSP framework into action by identifying key gender inequality issues and mapping how the social protection system can address them to achieve greater gender equality outcomes.
* It followed a participatory approach that began with deliberative discussions in Kumasi and Tamale, engaging regional and district officials, as well as representatives from women’s and faith-based organizations, to identify critical gender issues.
* This was followed by a series of policy dialogues in Accra to discuss stakeholder input and explore solutions for enhancing the gender responsiveness of Ghana’s social protection system.
* Key issues addresses include: economic shocks, unpaid care responsibilities, old age vulnerabilities, gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies, and the under-representation of women in decision-making
I can't wait to hearing more about the next steps in implementing the roadmap!🚀
