Heat poses serious risks to public health, especially for women and vulnerable populations. Join us for a learning session with Dr. Jason Kai Wei LEE on 16 October, 10–11 a.m. Dr. Lee, who leads the WHO-WMO Southeast Asia Heat Health Hub, will discuss efforts to manage the complex health risks posed by rising temperatures. His work focuses on providing scalable solutions to protect the health and well-being of workers under heat stress, while optimizing productivity and developing innovative approaches to mitigate heat’s impacts. Dr. Lee will also share insights into the physiological effects of heat stress on health and performance, lessons from Southeast Asia, and approaches to scaling heat resilience guidelines across Asia and the Pacific. The Philippines is taking a strategic step forward. On October 7, the Climate Change Commission Philippines, with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Agence Française de Développement, launched the Philippines Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Gender Action Plan. Under the Paris Agreement, the Philippines committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% and increase renewable energy’s share of power generation to 35% in 2030 and 50% by 2040.
