The second episode of আজকের Agenda X UHC Forum Health Debate took place on 4 July 2024 at 7:30 PM. আজকের Agenda, a series of policy conversations initiated by PPRC in 2020, partnered with the UHC Forum to present this debate. Bangladesh has made significant strides in reducing the maternal mortality ratio (MMR). However, recent deaths, including that of Under-19 Women's National Football team member Razia Sultana, highlight the need to reassess barriers to progress in preventing maternal mortality. The C-section delivery rate in Bangladesh has surged to 50.7%, far exceeding the WHO's recommended rate. This surge, alongside 16 maternal deaths during C-sections between February and March 2024, raises a critical question: Where are we on Safe Birth and Zero Preventable Maternal Mortality? This health debate explored this pressing issue. Read more: https://shorturl.at/GCd7d Check the full episode: https://shorturl.at/Lvp7Y

2024 Fellow Jasmine M. sheds light on the pressing issues faced by India’s indigenous communities in her BMJ Leader opinion piece. These communities endure higher rates of malnutrition, infectious diseases, and chronic illnesses, exacerbated by geographic isolation, discrimination, and limited access to healthcare. The 2018 Tribal Health Report highlighted these challenges and recommended creating Tribal Health Councils and targeted action plans. However, a lack of comprehensive health data continues to hinder efforts to address their specific needs. Jasmine emphasizes that to bridge these gaps, India must adopt culturally sensitive health policies and actively involve indigenous communities in health governance to ensure lasting change and equitable healthcare for all.
