Throughout his internship, Giovanni will be applying his background in communications by assisting our PR teams with editorial research, crafting pitches, coordinating events, developing social media content, and attending industry networking opportunities. He’s excited to explore New York City and dive into all it has to offer! Get to know Giovanni in the following Q&A: Q: Where & what are you studying? A: I'm currently studying public relations and corporate communication at IULM University In Milan. Q: Can you share one past or recent learning experience that you loved or that stuck with you? A: I recently learned how to spot sustainability hazards inside company communications like greenwashing and non-sustainable actions. I consider this a fundamental issue in the public relations and communications world and hope I'll be able to work in this field. Q: What do you love to do when you’re not studying or working? A: When I'm not studying or working I love fixing fixed gears bikes in my garage and doing pottery on my balcony surrounded by my plants and flowers. Q: What’s your favorite food? A: My favorite foods are quesadillas and bean tacos. I love Mexican cuisine!

Dear network, it is with immense pleasure I would like to share some exciting milestones in my career journey: 🎓 Bocconi University - master’s degree: In July, I completed my master’s degree in Marketing and Management at Bocconi University, achieving 110/110 cum laude. My thesis, “Male Plant-Based Resistance: A Cross-Sectional Study,” explored the intriguing reasons behind the higher prevalence of plant-based lifestyles among women compared to men. This research was a passion project of mine, and I am deeply grateful to Professor Fabrizio Zerbini for his invaluable guidance throughout the process. 🌍 Queen’s University - Double Degree: In addition, I have also recently completed my Queen’s study program by participating in the 901 Global Consultancy Project as part of the Stuart group during my double degree adventure. We worked with Koorvi, a pioneering German start-up in the circular economy industry. This was a remarkable opportunity to dive into the innovative world of sustainable business practices and gain insights into a vital and growing market segment. I would like to seize this opportunity to thank my teammates for the continuous collaboration and support, namely Laura Cohendet , Magdalena Mästle-Goer , Ruben Oppeel, Soumil Shah and Ai Miao. With such a cohesive and engaged team, we managed to deliver S-M-L’s suggestions and best practices for koorvi’s success inside this dynamic industry. 🚀 Numberly - Curricular Internship: My internship at Numberly was a transformative experience. Over six months, I progressed from managing emails to orchestrating, planning, and delivering client communications in multifaceted and seamless ways. This role sharpened my skills in multitasking, effective communication, and strategic planning. I also gained proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics, a tool that enhanced my ability to navigate complex data and streamline processes. ✨ Next steps - Interbrand: As I look ahead, I am incredibly excited to announce that I will be joining Interbrand in Milan this September. I am eager to bring my passion for marketing and innovation to this new chapter. Overall, I am deeply thankful for all the experiences and mentors who have shaped my path. While we weren't sure how long our search would take, we struck gold with some outstanding candidates. As a start-up, every early hire is crucial, so we took our selection process seriously. We tested candidates through an intense process including online assessment and two case interviews (I felt a bit bad for them, to be honest). Despite the high standards, we ended up with three brilliant candidates who would excel in the role. Choosing just one was a real challenge! If you're in the market for a student assistant, I'd like to recommend two exceptional individuals. The news on the latest Pedestrian Group licensed brand staff cuts has been the most resonating of all the cuts and the challenging environment we've been experiencing for the past year in Australia. It truly reflects the shrinking coverage of key technology and culture verticals for the up-and-coming Gen Z and Alpha generations. It doesn't help that they increasingly trust social media platforms for news & editorial coverage. Still, as an SEO & publisher, it's truly an underappreciated practice for advertisers to realise a value exchange for some parts of journalism to remain a viable business model and not 100% shortcuts through tech platforms. As I've mentioned time and time again, our clients and those we observe in the industry are always examples of how we can do better for our publication to be better for others ultimately. As an employer, I can also attest that running a pub business has been challenging in the past financial year. Still, the least I/we can do is to help find other doors that can lead to opportunities for those who can't currently work together because good karma does come around when you least expect it. 🎓 19th March marked the culmination of my 2 years and 3 months Master’s degree journey. A journey that lasted slightly longer than anticipated but has enriched me beyond expectations. Indeed, I'm deeply grateful to have persevered and reached this milestone, even amidst unexpected twists and turns that also ended up influencing my academic journey. With the determination of one who is purpose-driven, I pressed forward towards my goals and, alongside my studies, I had the privilege of immersing myself in various professional experiences, each serving as a necessary piece in the greater puzzle of my journey. ®️Starting from my first actual job experience as back office employee at Ruffini Ponchiroli e Associati 📲 To getting to know more about the media world and becoming team supervisor and content director of the Milan branch of Kingdom Ambassadors Centre 🇺🇳 To becoming board member and social media manager at the Milan branch of MSOI - UNYA Italy 🔶 This paved the way for my comms internship at Oasis Belgium 🇪🇺 And most recently, I’ve continued along the communications path with European Alternatives. Little did I realize at the outset that each of these and several other experiences would serve as a stepping stone to the next. What remained constant was my focus on the one who drives my “why” and the desire and will to pursue what was unfolding before me. Reflecting on this couple of years, I can say that focus and persistence are key. Whether your path is already clear or becoming clearer along the journey, stay committed, stay resilient, and keep pushing forward. Clarity often emerges from the process itself. Keep pushing. ✅ Reflecting on My Summer Internship at the Swedish Chamber of Commerce Taipei 💡 “I want you to have a good experience here.” Those were the very first words from my supervisor, Keli, when I joined the Swedish Chamber of Commerce Taipei. They set the tone for what would become a truly rewarding and memorable summer. So, what was it like interning at SCCT? That’s a question I’ve been asked repeatedly since returning to school. My answer is both simple and sincere: It was a transformative experience that made this summer one of the best I’ve ever had! You’ve probably heard that Swedes value #diversity and #equality. You might know that work-life balance is more than just a buzzword in Sweden, and you’ve definitely seen the word “#fika” pop up at IKEA. But it’s one thing to hear about these values and another to experience them in action. Working closely with Louise, I supported a variety of initiatives—from brainstorming new projects to refining operations and curating events that strengthened SCCT’s presence. ✨Some highlights? Co-organizing a #Midsummer Celebration, planning the #Lillördag After-Work Dinner, and conducting on-site visits and interviews with our members to better understand their unique perspectives and experiences. These opportunities provided me with valuable insights into Swedish business culture and broadened my understanding of effective community engagement. Coming from a background outside of marketing and operations, every day felt like a mini crash course—and I loved every second of it! But the real magic? The people. I made friends not just within the Chamber but across its entire network. I had the chance to see Swedish culture in action: “I like that idea!” and “Tell me more about it!” were phrases I heard often. And when we came together for fika, it wasn’t just about coffee—it was about building trust, sharing perspectives, and fostering sincere friendships. Two months might seem short, but my time at SCCT left such a lasting impression that I’ve decided to stay engaged and continue contributing as a volunteer! I couldn’t believe I am already one month into my summer internship at the #HongKongTourismBoard, and I cannot say enough about the fun and exciting experience I have been having here. I am very lucky to have joined HKTB at this point in time, where #summerchillhongkong is bringing splashes of excitement to Hong Kong! I am now responsible for some of the key operations of the campaign, and I am also invited to join internal regroups and external meetings. I have been learning so much just by observing how they speak, represent HKTB, etc., witnessing how my colleagues and seniors bring what I thought was impossible to life. My teammates, no joke, are some of the best colleagues and seniors I have ever worked with. They all bring unique values to the team and create a synergy full of chemistry. One thing I would like to highlight is how the good examples set by the seniors can influence the team dynamic so much. - The transparent communications demonstrated by our director established an efficient dynamic between all team members to convey on-point updates. - He actively observes teammates expressions to see if there is anything he could assist, and provide support if he can. - A mix of leadership styles is used by our seniors to tackle different issues faced by the team (delegating, participating leadership). In the business world, no one knows what exactly will happen next. That’s one of the reasons why having a trusting and well-respected leader is important for any team to navigate the VUCA environment. While planning ahead the content calendar around awareness days, I noticed that yesterday (25 July) was National Intern Day. Interestingly, it reminded me that 20 years ago this time, I was doing my internship with the political desk of a newspaper in Hong Kong, covering election news, before pivoting to the world of communications and PR. Reflecting on my journey over the years, I've worked in various industries and regions, but some principles have remained valid regardless of time and place: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 🔍. It pushes me to adapt in a constantly evolving world and inspires creativity. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 🌿. In the fast-paced nature of communications, it's easy to overload ourselves until we burn out. Achieving work-life balance has been crucial for the sustainability of this career. Summer has (finally) arrived!
