The race is on for all banks and payment service providers in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) countries to offer instant payments under the new SEPA Instant Credit Transfer scheme – with the January 9, 2025 deadline looming. All stakeholders are going to need to work quickly and cooperatively to meet this deadline; the good news is that we’re already seeing tremendous energy in that direction. This week, as several of my colleagues and I attend EBAday in Lisbon with STET, whom we recently announced reached a new record high in the past 12 months. STET – using ACI Worldwide technology – processed more than 50 million cross-border instant payment transactions. But that’s only the beginning. As we get closer to the @MPE, I've been thinking a lot about what is most important for us to be talking about as an industry.    One thing that I keep coming back to is the issue of ‘payments complexity’.    It’s never been more necessary to focus on the needs of customers, whether they’re partners, merchants, or consumers, and it’s great to see that this will be an agenda point at MPE this year. As a business, we at @Cashflows are particularly passionate about trying to simplify what is a complex environment that is often difficult to understand, particularly for those who don’t work in the payments industry day in and day out.   Whilst it’s true that we always need to focus on enhancing the checkout process through streamlining processes and improving engagement, conversion rates, and customer loyalty, we also must make #payments more accessible by demystifying the process and providing clarity on the ways businesses can mitigate issues such as unsuccessful payments.   I’m really interested to see the conversations that are had during session 5 at the MPE discussing the “complexity” challenge and hearing what @Gabriel Lucas, Tamas Huszar, Andrzej Tomaszewski, Matteo Gamba, and Eelco Dettingmeijer have to say.    If anyone in my network is attending #MPE, drop me a message and we can connect at the conference. The first day of the SBC Summit in Lisbon has exceeded all of our expectations! 🌟 We were thrilled to attend the panel Spotlight on UK White Paper: How Far Do Proposed Regulations Go for Players and Operators?, which addressed the pressing issue of regulatory scrutiny in the UK gambling market. ⚖🎲 Industry experts discussed the implications of a new white paper aimed at preventing unsafe gambling and its potential impact on both players and operators. 🛑 The panel focused on how operators should respond to the increasing regulatory measures and what insights can be drawn from the UK Gambling Commission's (UKGC) 2024 report. Jessica Wilson, an Associate at Harris Hagan, explained that “the Gambling Commission often focuses on consumer protection” rather than job creation and economic benefits. 👥📑 The discussion stressed the importance of adapting to these evolving regulations, with Wes Himes adding, “You need to start preparing for enforcement… starting probably in the second quarter of the next year.
