The #PlastChem project team is very grateful for the media coverage since the launch of our PlastChem report! Of particular focus of this coverage was the more than 16,000+ chemicals in plastic products, of which at least 4,200 plastic chemicals (or 26%) are of concern because of their high hazards to human health and the environment. One lesser discussed aspect that we are particularly proud of is that this dataset of 16000+ plastic chemicals is openly available to all, along with all the information we had about their hazards, to make our key findings. #datatransparency This dataset is freely available, following #FAIR principles, for all to download on our webpage and Zenodo page. It was built by combining several previous efforts to make such lists, including those which the authors contributed to, along with their students, colleagues and research network. We share this data openly to encourage more research and transparency in relation to these plastic chemicals. Through encouraging such transparency, we hope it will encourage an international shift towards incentivizing the simplification of plastics towards safety and sustainability. [PRESS RELEASE] CARBIOS and Selenis Specialty Polyester Solutions announce strategic partnership to produce PETG issued from CARBIOS’ biorecycling technology for Cosmetic and Healthcare markets CARBIOS and SELENIS have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to cooperate in the production of PETG (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol). By leveraging CARBIOS’ unique enzymatic depolymerization technology and Selenis’ expertise in polymerization, the companies aim to develop a premium, sustainable PETG material made from PET waste for the Cosmetic and Healthcare packaging sectors across Europe and the U.S. PETG is an indispensable packaging material in both the cosmetics and healthcare industries due to its exceptional clarity, durability, mechanical and chemical resistance. CARBIOS’ enzymatic depolymerization solution breaks down all types of PET waste into PTA and MEG monomers, which are then transformed into PETG through Selenis’ advanced polymerization processes. Thanks to the purity of these monomers, PETG issued from biorecycling presents the exact same properties as virgin PETG. Emmanuel LADENT 🌍 Directeur Général - Carbios: “CARBIOS and Selenis have a long collaboration, and we are pleased to build on this established relationship to produce PETG issued from CARBIOS’ unique biorecycling technology. This high-specialty, premium material meets demanding quality requirements whilst also contributing to the transition to more sustainable packaging materials. The partnership will open new markets for CARBIOS, notably the healthcare sector, as we continue our worldwide commercial deployment.” Eduardo Miguel Santos, Head of Corporate Strategy at Selenis: “This collaboration marks an exciting step in our mission to drive sustainability in the polymerization industry. By combining our 65 years of expertise with CARBIOS’ pioneering biorecycling technology that ensures high-quality monomers for the production of virgin-like PETG, we are advancing in the development of sustainable materials to meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible solutions in the cosmetic and healthcare sectors. Together, we have the potential to reshape the future of sustainable plastics." #CARBIOS #biorecycling #innovation #partnership
