Today ends National Infertility Awareness Week - April 21-27, 2024 The definition of infertility by the World Health Organization is this: Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Sadly, infertility and pregnancy loss are more often than not, a common experience, roughly 1 in 6 people worldwide are affected by infertility. 😓 After our son Stephen died in utero at 16 weeks gestation, our hearts were crushed and our hopes were torn! Not just for the loss of his life but his death left us wondering if we would ever have a healthy pregnancy that resulted in a live birth. We were still heartbroken and waiting over a year and a half later. 💔 Cue: Unexplained infertility diagnosis. 😒 I remember one doctors advice; "You are both young, in good health, there seems to be nothing wrong with either of you. Relax and be patient, your time will come." 🙄 Obviously NONE of those words brough much comfort! I still recall those weeks and months as some of the MOST IMPOSSIBLE in our journey as parents! The wanting and waiting days were full of tears, tests, tracking, charting, hoping, wondering, disappointment, and GRIEF!! 😭🧪😠📈 If you are one in six, I hope that you feel well supported by your partner, family, and a capable and compassionate care team! I encourage you to be gentle with yourself, especially as we approach Mother's Day. 💐 Please know you are not alone, there are many of us who have walked this road before you and are here to lend a hand or just a listening ear. This is a difficult and stressful journey and you deserve support! ❤️🩹 Check out several of these organizations and individuals on social media for further support during your infertility journey! 💗 #NIAW #Leaveyourmark #infertility @Whilewewait @misconceptioncoach @infertilemillenial @hope.through.infertility

Infertility affects women of all reproductive ages and people creating families at different life stages with varied backgrounds. It can feel like a lonely road, filled with unexpected twists and turns. Whether you are just beginning your family building journey or have been on this path for some time, know that you are not alone. At Hoag, we are here to help you through these uncertain times. “There are many causes of infertility and sometimes, with the right treatment, we can help couples conceive naturally,” said Sharon Moayeri, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., M.P.H., M.S., Hoag reproductive endocrinology & infertility. “If interventions are needed, Hoag provides expert fertility care.” “A common misconception is that infertility is primarily related to women. “However, nearly half of infertility involves male factor, and the remaining is caused by a combination of problems in both partners, or unknown,” Dr. Moayeri said. 50% of infertility issues are related to male factors, yet the responsibility for family planning often falls entirely on the female partner. We're here to change that! At Posterity Health, our solution is as easy as it sounds: evaluate the male for fertility at the beginning of the family planning process to equitably reallocate responsibility. https://lnkd.in/eRP7wCYA

Globally, around 10% of women have endometriosis - and 30-50% of them may experience infertility. On average, it takes about 7-10 years from the onset of symptoms for a woman to receive a proper diagnosis of endometriosis. This delay is due to the often vague and overlapping symptoms. Endometriosis is a complex condition that requires increased awareness, research efforts, and comprehensive care to improve outcomes for affected individuals.
