Today, I want to share a personal reflection on why I am proud to be a DEI hire. My journey has been deeply shaped by the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I believe these principles are essential for any organization striving for true innovation and growth. Being a DEI hire means more than just fulfilling a quota. It represents a commitment to bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to the table, which is crucial for solving complex problems and driving creativity. My background, shaped by a small-town upbringing, military service, and a career in technology and talent acquisition, has given me a unique lens through which I view the world. This diversity of thought has been a significant asset in my work, allowing me to connect with and understand the needs of a wide range of people. In every role I've taken on, from being a Navy officer to a diversity consultant and speaker, I've seen firsthand how inclusivity can transform workplaces. It fosters a sense of belonging, empowers individuals to bring their whole selves to work, and ultimately leads to better business outcomes. Being a DEI hire isn't just a point of pride; it's a responsibility to advocate for and mentor others from underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring they have the support and opportunities to thrive. I am proud to be part of a movement that recognizes the value of diverse talent and is committed to creating inclusive environments where everyone can succeed. Dear Vice President Harris: Embrace “DEI Hire.” Defuse the ugly intent by promoting the values that DEI represents—the American values that just so happen to be introduced plainly and clearly in the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Diversity: ALL are created equal Equity: All are created EQUAL Inclusion: ALL are endowed with RIGHTS, among these, LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. ALL people, every KIND of us. The worst of us are attempting to reframe DEI as a euphemism for the most primitively grotesque slur. The best of us need to remind The People that DEI is shorthand for exercising the Declaration of Independence IRL. D.E.I. = D.O.I.
